Darkling Door 6121

This is a deck built from just Core Set, The Wilds of Rhovannion, and the first two APs of the Ered Mithrin cycle for Path Less Traveled, an ongoing series on my blog, Darkling Door.

Played Against: Roam Across Rhovanion

Leading the deck to victory

Use Denethor to bury most of the Enemies at the bottom of the encounter deck, allowing Haldan to reap the benefits of clearing all those Locations in peace!

Mulligan for: Any Location Attachment

Tips

  • Don't be afraid to use the Guarded Attachments when the Staging Area is clear. They're key to the deck reaching maximum power in the late-game.
  • Henamarth Riversong is great for setting up a Guarded Attachment to discard a Treachery, snuff a Surge card, or ensure it gets attached to a Location.
  • This deck is a little light on combat prowess. Try to time your engagements for a time when Haldan is ready to attack due to his ability.
  • Unless you can get Protector of Lórien and Unexpected Courage on Denethor, you'll need to use chump blocking as your primary form of defense, and your Allies are limited. Consider leaving a tough Enemy in the Staging Area and questing past it instead.
  • Due to only scrying 1 encounter card per round, this deck will work better solo than in multiplayer.

I'm still surprised at how well Haldan works in practice! I was able to draw through my whole deck with his help, even with a limited card pool and no other draw in the deck.
