The purpose of this deck is to use Ring of Thrór to get lots of attachments into play for free, while using a combination of Dáin Ironfoot’s defence ability, Wizard Pipe and Gandalf's Staff to exercise unprecedented control over what cards you’re drawing and discarding.

Most of the magic happens during the combat phase. It’s important that Dain’s action is to discard a single card up to three times, this means that, between each discard, you can trigger your Ring, Pipe, Staff or Gandalf’s ability to play, swap or draw the top card of the deck, or use Flame of Anor to ready Gandalf for a heavy hit (ideal target for flame would probably be Ered Luin Miner if you can find him, as this also puts him into play).

With the number of cards you get so see and possibly draw or play during Dain’s defences, it’s sometimes easy to forget that it’s just a side-effect of giving your boy Dain a ridiculous 6 defence without any attachments.

Opening hand: This depends on setup. If the quest starts gently you want to see Ring of Thrór early, but if you’re unlikely to be able to get it attached in the first couple of turns because of a more challenging early game staging area, you may be better off looking for one of Gandalf’s attachments.

Format: I built this to play 2-player and it doesn’t have outstanding questing power, though it doesn’t do too badly in that regard. For solo play, I’d recommend swapping the Dúnedain Signals for Dúnedain Quests, and possibly adding a second copy of Protector of Lórien, all of which attach to Balin, who quests every turn.

I really like your deck. I hadn't played with Ring of Thrór much until recently, when I realized it's powerful, nearly Vilya powerful. Surprised to not see many decks take advantage of it.

because of "guarded". at start an additional encountercard can be very hard, later you do not have this much from it.

@deck, i would put in 3 Thorongil gives a heavy boost, playing dwarfes and of course, one of the best dwarfcards at all King Under the Mountain

with this much discarding, i would not care to go over 50 and put in 3 Hidden Cache

if playing multiplayer, i would add 1-2 Armor of Erebor and at least 1 Dwarven Tomb if will of the west would be discarded accidentially.

1 Silver Circlet help with the questing (if you want to stay at 50 do you really need 3 Miruvor and 3 Flame of Anor? )
