This deck is built with The Hunt for Gollum in mind. It won on its first attempt, in 5 turns (and 29 threat at the end), for a score of 79.

A constraint I chose is to play in a strict progression style (with what was published up to the adventure pack included—not the whole cycle), with 2 cores.

Another constraint was to build a deck after reading the adventure pack sheet, but without knowing details about the quest in advance (as I like to discover the adventure).

This deck is also built for discovering a few of the cards introduced in the Hunt for Gollum Adventure Pack, like Bilbo Baggins, Rivendell Minstrel and Song of Kings. Mustering the Rohirrim is not so useful yet, because there are only a few Ally Rohan cards available.

The deck in hindsight

Based on my single (successful) play with it, what worked in this deck was:

  • The high willpower of Éowyn, which allowed the game to be over quickly and contributed to not meeting any Enemy.
  • Denethor's scrying power, which contributed to not even see any Enemy and avoid the bothersome Hunters from Mordor. During
  • Incorporating the ability to use Leadership cards brought the powerful Steward of Gondor, which made playing cards quite easy. The Song of Kings was thus key in the game I played (but Rivendell Minstrel) could have been useful too.

Original thoughts (before playing with the deck)

Gollum must be found through Clue Encounter cards, that go back to the Encounter deck when a hero is damaged. Also, Bilbo Baggins makes draw cards, so it's nice to have abilities that can be pumped by cards. The idea followed here thus consists in:

  • Avoiding engaging Enemies, so as to avoid losing a Clue as a Shadow card. This is nicely thematic: the heroes are busy trying to find Gollum, and the hunt can require speed and therefore discretion. Keeping a low threat level helps (Bilbo Baggins, Denethor, Éowyn, Strider's Path), as does swiftly killing enemies or being able to have many allies that can take the brunt of the attack so as to not damage the heroes, who must stay out of harm's way.
  • Moving through the Encounter deck fast is also useful (Denethor).

This deck originally had Eleanor instead of Éowyn, but Éowyn's amazing 4 willpower turned out to be very useful.
