This is my take on a solo trap deck. The benefits Sam Gamgee provides over another Lore hero for solo play are (1) low threat cost, (2) high willpower, (3) easy access to resource acceleration, (4) built in readying, and (5) a solid defensive option for those enemies that slip through your traps.

Even though you can't drop it first turn in this deck, you want to see Steward of Gondor in your opening hand and attach it to Faramir or Damrod as soon as possible. The card draw (Daeron's Runes, Mithrandir's Advice) and fetching (Master of the Forge) in this deck should mean you see it fairly soon even if you don't get it in your opening hand. Deep Knowledge is not included here in order to keep your threat low. Gandalf is really your only threat reduction option, and you need to keep your threat as low as you can for Sam Gamgee's readying and defensive boosts to work.

Erebor Hammersmith and Anborn should allow you to recycle needed traps after they're used or if you need to discard them to fuel Protector of Lórien. Between the recycling and the card draw/fetching, you should be able to use Protector of Lórien when needed without too much of an issue.

If you keep your threat low enough that enemies won't engage you, Ithilien Pit is a slick trap to use with Faramir (especially if you already have some other enemies trapped in the staging area), as it allows you to attack the enemy in the staging area, and it will boost Faramir's attack. For this reason, I like it better than using Ambush in this deck. Thanks to Damrod, it also can play for free.

Finally, Interrogation can help you plan out how you lay your traps and can help you avoid enemies that might be immune to their effects. If you come across an enemy with a low engagement cost, you could discard it if you have an Ithilien Pit in the staging area, so that the enemy doesn't engage you. If some of the enemies in the encounter deck are immune to attachments or player card effects, this allows you to discard them before you have to deal with them.

This is obviously not a "one deck to rule them all", but it is a fun solo option that can deal with a fair amount of enemies and isn't horrible at questing.
