RIDE NOW, RIDE NOW!

"Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden!
Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter!
spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered,
a sword-day, a red-day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!"

--Théoden at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, LotR V p.137

DECK OVERVIEW

This is a mono-Leadership deck based on the theme of the Rohirrim coming to the aid of Gondor during the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. It is designed to be played with the companion mono-Spirit & mono-Tactics decks--"Arise, Riders of Théoden!" & "Spear Shall Be Shaken..."--in my "Ride to Gondor!" Fellowship. Note that hero stats referenced in the descriptions of all three decks reflect the bonuses provided by Elfhelm, as 8 of the 9 heroes have a Mount attachment.

The focus of this deck within the Fellowship is typical for the inspirational Leadership sphere: resource acceleration & smoothing, mustering, readying, and universal stat boosters. While the heroes & allies excel at no one activity in particular, they can contribute to questing, defending, or attacking, in a utility basis.

HEROES & ATTACHMENTS

Prince Imrahil leads the forces of Gondor riding his Armored Destrier and brandishing a Sword of Númenor. He can quest for 2 , ready with his effect when an ally leaves play, defend at 3 , ready with the Destrier, and attack at 4 , gaining a resource if he destroys an enemy.

Elfhelm rides a Steed of the Mark (from "Arise, Riders of Théoden!") and wields a Spear of the Mark (from "Spear Shall Be Shaken..."). He can quest for 2 , ready with the Steed, and either defend at 3 or attack at 3-4 .

Denethor, wearing the Livery of the Tower and feeling the Blood of Númenor coursing through his veins, uses his Visionary Leadership to oversee the defense of Minas Tirith from atop an Armored Destrier. In lieu of a sword, the Steward of Gondor wields the Rod of the Steward and keeps resources and cards flowing. His innate resource smoothing effect lets him funnel resources to Beregond & Caldara in the other decks. When needed, he can defend twice at 4 and can spend resources to increase his or cancel damage. At times, he may adjourn to his tower to consult the Tome of Atanatar to recycle key events.

Note that The Day's Rising is meant to be attached to Beregond in "Spear Shall Be Shaken...".

ALLIES & EVENTS

Sneak Attack, Reinforcements & Send for Aid help muster the armies of Gondor & Rohan, with the latter two cards able to affect multiple players. Over half of the allies in the deck have the Gondor trait in order to benefit from Visionary Leadership & For Gondor!. The remaining allies, save for Gandalf, have the Rohan trait. Mutual Accord lets Rohan allies benefit from Gondor modifiers, and vice versa. And, since Mutual Accord and many of the universal modifiers in all three decks affect all characters, often, every character in play can benefit. Strength of Arms is also universal and can ready every ally in play at a cost of only 2 resources.

Since Denethor with Steward of Gondor doesn't need too much help with resources, Squire of the Citadel & Wealth of Gondor can be used on Beregond & Caldara in the other decks. The Squire leaving play or Sneak Attack can also trigger Valiant Sacrifice & Imrahil's effect, as can Escort from Edoras & The Riddermark's Finest from "Arise, Riders of Théoden!" or Grimbold & Westfold Outrider from "Spear Shall Be Shaken...".
