This deck is capable of beating Escape solo. My only concession to difficulty was choosing the random hero before drawing the opening hand and auto-conceding except on Eleanor, recording each concession as a loss, and proceeding normally. With some luck I was able to win on the seventh attempt (including auto-concessions) with this build.

How did you handle defending early on as I'm assuming you held Aragorn back to attack enemies?

Strategy in early game is going to be ad hoc with some wishful thinking. This quest is too hard solo! But you have some chump blockers and Sneak/G to help out.
