Before Folco was released, I had been working on a two hero Strider deck using Sam and Frodo. The goal was to finally achieve the theme of Frodo and Sam facing off dangers all by themselves. Unfortunately, it never quite clicked as well as I wanted it too. Fast forward a few months, and Folco brought a new opportunity to bring back this idea. Ideally, Folco could help get Sam and Frodo started, then head home for a nice ale or two when the time came, leaving the heroic duo to their own devices!

In practice, many of the original secrecy elements have been jettisoned, including Strider itself. While Strider is useful, this particular deck lets Folco hang around for a bit longer before discarding him, and at that point there are usually more than 5 characters on the board, with the not exhausting to quest being a nice but not mind-blowing feature. However, what Folco does allow is for the all-important playing of Fast Hitch in-sphere, along with some quick draw.

Overall, the goal is for Frodo to get loaded up with Fast Hitches. Together with Friend of Friends, Arwen, and Rosie Cotton, he can defend quite well, soaking up any damage that seeps through using his ability. And with all the threat reduction and Folco around, he should be able to do this fairly comfortably.

The main secrecy cards here are Timely Aid and Resourceful. In fact, Timely Aid is the main card that I look for when mulliganing. I've opted for single copies of a bunch of different powerful uniques, with the goal of hitting them with Timely Aid, and then hopefully pulling off some a Very Good Tales. The singleton strategy is designed to avoid whiffing too often with these cards and pulling allies that I already have in play.

Once I feel confidently set up, and that most of the important Lore cards have been played, and that my threat is peeking up high enough that enemies might notice, that is the moment that I will use Folco's ability. This can vary from game to game and quest to quest. If I get Prince Imrahil in play, then it all ends up as a net gain in terms of stats actually.

As a final conclusion, I'm not sure how well this deck will stand up against tougher scenarios, but it does well when quests don't have enemies with super low engagement costs or that force too much time pressure, as this deck wants to keep its head low and build up a powerful army.

I enjoyed watching your live Twitch today and I got to play the deck a few times myself and write up my thoughts on a couple of these Boffin decks! Very fun deck! lotrdecktest.wordpress.com
