Hey everyone,

Chris here with a deck I built to use some of the new cards in The Crossings of Poros. Halfast Gamgee pushes us to work on some sidequests, and Flight to the Sea is just fun. Plus, Thurindir is a Dunedain, so we can also play Ranger Summons!

Strategy:

Thurindir should fetch up Gather Information for your first side quest. It costs no resources, and only requires 4 progress to clear, which is pretty easy to do in a lot of quests. After that, you have more options. Double Back is similarly easy to clear and free to play, but Prepare for Battle and Rally the West have the best long term effects.

The Legacy Blades are mostly for Glorfindel, since Light of Valinor will keep him ready. If you find the third, you can give it to Sam. His readying means he may be able to use it after committing to the quest.

You may have noticed that none of the heroes in the deck are very well suited for defending. This is true, you'll need your allies to pull their weight. Treebeard is the best, especially with Arwen Undómiel helping to boost his defense for the full round. But Warden of Helm's Deep isn't too shabby, or even Faramir in a pinch.

Video Thoughts:

The first video with this deck is going up today, and just to show off how ridiculous the sidequests can be, it's a playthrough of Conflict at the Carrock. And the stats end up working out incredibly well. Glorfindel with two Legacy Blade and his 9 attack plus Grimbeorn's 4 attack is enough to take out most of the Carrock boosted trolls regardless of whatever else you have in play at the time.

The deck did suffer a bit of a setback on one of the early turns, but by that point I had enough momentum to keep on powering through.

I've been largely disappointed by the encounter cards. Some of that definitely has to do with the encounter decks I've been playing being large, and my general play being solo only. Still, though, I haven't gotten any Ranger of the North except as shadow cards, and I've only revealed Wind from the Sea once! (And it wasn't even during the quest phase, so nothing happened...)

If you want to check out today's video, it's up on youtube here, or you can find all my other decks posted on ringsdb!

Thanks for watching!

6 "Encounter" player cards don't work, I think. From the rules:

"Instead, when setting up a scenario, each player may set up to 3 cards with the encounter keyword aside, out of play. These cards do not count toward the player’s deck minimum of 50 cards."

But the deck should work anyway.

@openMfly Yeah, that got pointed out to me by somebody else, too. It's pretty easy to forget this kind of thing for uncommon keywords with a lot of rules.

The Encounter cards are quite low impact in the videos I've recorded, so I'm not too worried about it. I might feel differently if this were meant to be part of a four player fellowship with a ton of Encounter cards included.
