A generic Black Gate deck. If playing with X players, bring X decks exactly like this.
You will have to swap out the heroes of course, so my recommendations are to have a hero that helps with card draw (Beravor/Galdor/Bilbo), a Hobbit hero (Bilbo/Pippin/Folco for Good Meal), and a hero that can withstand an attack of 6 from the Mouth of Sauron (Elrond/Aragorn/Bombur/Faramir/Treebeard).
Elrond should be somewhere on the table of course, to help with healing.
Generic deck strategy:
- Play a bunch of Doomed cards at the beginning of the game.
- Play down Protector of Lorien on the strongest defending heroes (in case the Mouth gets a + shadow).
- Discard copies outlands allies to Protector of Lórien.
- Pass Stand and Fight to one player using Message from Elrond. We will call that player's deck the "Master Master".
Master deck strategy:
- Attach Song of Travel and Steward of Gondor to a hero you control (or have a generic deck do this).
- Play out all your own Outland's allies, as well as any others you can pull in with Stand and Fight.
- Quest with all Outlands every turn. With one player controlling 3X Ethir Swordsman and 3x Anfalas Herdsman you should have no problem questing successfully.
Group's strategy:
- Have a deck play Advanced Warning every round. The goal is to never engage any enemies, and heal off the archery damage every round.
- If you fail in doing this on any turn, you will likely fail immediately. This is why we have recursion in the deck (Scroll of Isildur and Will of the West.
Good luck!
P.S. If you run into issues with the encounter deck running out and cycling through the treacheires over and over, you will have to take a slightly more complex approach (see here: http://ringsdb.com/fellowship/view/4245/the-black-gate-stalemate).
