When I look at the facebook group, I see a lot of people dismissing dwarves as overpowered and a beginner's choice for deckbuilding. For my playthrough of Khazad-Dum, I wanted a dwarf deck without leadership, to force myself to avoid Dain, Thorin and We are not idle. I decided to use the more recent additions to the Dwarf card pool - the self-mill cards. And it is so much fun to play!

The basic idea is to profit from self-milling. Zigil Miner is of course key to this strategy, but this is no "everything costs 3" deck. Ideally, you want to get a Zigil miner out there on the first turn. When you activate it, aim for 2 or 3 cost cards, depending on what you have in your hand and in play. It is so great to flip over a Ered Luin MIner or a hidden cache. Furthermore, by using Stand and Fight you can use spirit resources to get several heroes into play from your discard pile. Are you being flooded with enemies? Stand and Fight an Erebor Battle Master. Do you have a nasty condition attachment? Bring back a miner of the Iron Hills! Put back cards into your deck with the Dwarves Pipes. Managing the miners and the discard pile is really a fun aspect of the game.

The deck is made for Khazad-Dum so it has a focus on mountain and underground locations. If you want to use it for other kinds of quests, swap out the Ancestral Knowledge and Ever my Heart Rises for some of the cards in the sideboard.

I of course realise that the Erebor Battle Master is an overpowered card, and if you want a more "humble" experience, simply swap them out for some tactics events. Dwalin with a dwarrowdelf axe is capable of killing most orcs in the Khazad-dum set. The deck doesn't really have a strong defender - mostly I defended with Bifur or by using one of the two miners (Iron Hills or Ered Luin) for chump blocking against stronger enemies.

The main disadvantage of the deck was questpower. When it is fully running, you will on average quest for 9 or 10, which might not really be enough for serious progress. I used Bombur to reduce staging threat, and in later phases, directed resources from the Zigil miners towards Bifur. Bifur's resources were then used to boost Longbeard Map-Makers.

If you are sick of Dain and Thorin, give this deck a shot. It is really fun to play.
