Devaresh 2024

This deck was constructed as a Thematic shadow for my blog:

https://reflectioninhennethannun.wordpress.com/2018/04/21/shadows-of-the-past-of-aule-and-yavanna/

The goal was to create a deck which told a parallel story to “Of Aulë and Yavanna” in The Simarillion. So the deck is made up of dwarves and ents, and strives to emulate the tension between themes of cultivation vs conservation. For more information check out the blog!

How does it play?

Glóin and Gimli take damage to build up resources and attack power while you build up your board state with ents and dwarves.

In your opening hand you want Song of Mocking, which you place on Glóin. This will allow you to immediately start generating extra resources by taking damage with Treebeard’s ability into Glóin. From there your next priority is King Under the Mountain and then Narvi's Belt.

Once those are in place start throwing all the health boosting attachments onto Glóin and then Gimli. Once you get some of the healing online you will be generating so much money you won’t know what to do!

Erebor Hammersmith and Ered Nimrais Prospector are there to help you pull key cards from the discard pile if they get there. Stand and Fight can help you bring back and ally. Or ifyou don’t need it, you will probably have enough resources on Glóin to help bring someone else’s key ally back!

33 is a high starting threat which is tough but you can play Gandalf up to 7 times if you really need it! And there’s the Favor of the Valar safety net if you get it.

Boomed and Trumpeted can give you a little more early game flexibility to quest with Treebeard then trigger his ability once during combat to ready him and crush an enemy.

Master of the Forge helps fetch attachments, and using Glóin Heed the Dream will probably be grabbing you whatever you need because you’ll be able to pay for the additional effect.

Summary

This deck can be a little slow to get going but once it sets up it will be a monster! It was designed for solo but could play well in a multiplayer setting, particularly with a deck with high or some additional healing.

This isn’t necessarily a power deck, but it can hold its own, and can be very fun!

Check it out and let me know what you think!

You can’t use Stand and Fight on Neutral allies. It’s a silly ruling, but apparently “can belon

g to any sphere” means it must belong to “a” sphere.

Anyway, cool deck and great story on the blog!

@Wandalf the GizzardYou are absolutely right! ! I learned that while I was building and forgot I had put it in the description! You can get more Gandalf with it indirectly though using Ered Nimrais Prospector to get him back in your deck from the discard! So if you include both of those and potential recursion of them that goes up to 9 Gandalfs actually! Stand and Fight is more to pull back a unique ally or a Healer!
