The BGamerJoe 4845

Never pay full cost for anything! This deck is built around 3 cost-reducing heroes and the idea is to be playing a trap and two allies per turn.

Opening Hand

Gleowine is a great ally to get down right away so look for him, a trap and a Tactics ally in your opening hand. An ideal first turn would be Gléowine for 1 resource, Entangling Nets for free, and a Defender of Rammas played during the quest phase for 1 resource.

Other good cards to look for in your opening hand include Snowmane, Golden Shield, and a questing ally like Arwen Undómiel or a Rider of Rohan.

Basic Play

Nothing complex here! play as many traps and allies as you can! Gleowine and your traps will provide some card draw and Anborn will help cycle your traps and improve your draw.

Try to complete a sidequest when you have a chance so your Riders if Rohan will be able to help out in combat. The Storm Comes helps you play more expensively allies like Anborn, Gather Information can help you grab helpful cards like Snowmane or Golden Shield and Rally the West helps your questing and your defense if Théoden is using his Shield.

The hero lineup includes the Warrior, Noble, Scout, and Ranger traits so it can run all the multi-trait events but I found Proud Hunters to be unnecessary while Well Warned is very helpful since the decks starts at 30.

Weaknesses

This deck lacks healing effects and doesn’t run treachery cancellation so quests with heavy direct damage will be hard in solo play. With most of the cards coming at low cost, it’s possible to play out your hand and “top deck” for a while if you don’t get Gleowine and/or Anborn’s Trap cycle going so make that card draw a priority when looking at that opening hand.

Testing

I’ve beat several quests with this as a solo deck, but my best games have been two players games paired with Mr Underhill’s Uncle Bilbo deck which provided me with extra card draw. You can see the deck in action with that Uncle Bilbo vs the Foundations of Stone here.

It’s not a power deck, but it’s decently capable and entertaining to get a discount every time you play a card!

Enjoy and let me know if it works for you!
