This is a deck that has been heavily teched for one scenario: Mount Doom. This is a very difficult scenario that penalizes the ally swarms that tend to often dominate LotR LCG deck building. I decided to explore a build that is not focused on Hobbits (although I love that the quest incentivizes a sneaky Hobbit strategy). Instead, this deck is all about Glorfindel and pumping his willpower:

  • Galadriel of course can pump Glorfindel's willpower once she gets Nenya. With this in mind, Nenya is the #1 card you are looking for in your opening hand and you should mulligan for it.
  • Beyond Galadriel, Fellowship of the Ring, Miruvor, Protector of Lorien, Windfola, and Strider are all willpower buffs for Glorfindel. With Light of Valinor, Magic Ring, Unexpected Courage, and Miruvor, you should be able to use his insanely high willpower multiple times per round for both questing and fortitude tests.
  • Note that the willpower boost from Strider is a nice cheap form of willpower boosting even if you don't have access to the 2 hero benefit, since this deck will never get past 5 characters. The only ally you should ever have out is a single copy of Master of the Forge to grab those important attachments.
  • The main purpose of Resourceful is to pump Galadriel's resources. This pool of resources will be used in conjunction with Lay of Nimrodel to pump her willpower, which in turn allows for Glorfindel to have insane questing power for those crucial turns (you can also stick Resourcefuls on Glorfindel too, but Galadriel also has the Lore icon with Nenya). In fact, Lay of Nimrodel is so important that you should search for your copies with Mirror of Galadriel when you are getting to the crucial last half of the quest.
  • Your main goal with enemies is to avoid them. If one sneaks by, then use Feint or Orc Disguise to cancel the attack. Tactics Eowyn gives you one huge attack if you need it.
  • There is one condition attachment treachery in the quest that acts as attachment hate. Power of Orthanc is here to remove it.

Try this out against Mount Doom. It's quite a bit of fun!

I think a lot of us have realized Power of Orthanc is pretty much an auto-include for this quest and this type of deck. It's almost like Caleb knew how we were going to try to beat it....

Yeah, definitely. It's like the silver bullet for the attachment heavy strategy. I am interested in trying out a super aggro swarm strategy that just tries to blast through in a few rounds.

This really isn't the optimal deck for this scenario. The first 2 quest stages are a breeze to get through, but the deck severely falters, and I mean severely falters, at that infamous stage 3B with the 20 progress requirement. The only way to potentially beat this scenario using this deck is to have Light of Valinor and Nenya in your opening hand. They both have to be there right at the start of the game if you hope to have any shot at beating this scenario. I have yet to confirm this, however. I'll try just removing LoV and Nenya from the deck and putting them into my opening hand. If that won't work, then this really isn't a good deck to use.

@Orthanc86it had a decent success rate for me. I think around 2/3. That’s not the same as a guarantee of success though. It’s a tough scenario no matter what, and that requires a bit of luck, a bit of practice, and a bit of piloting.

I just can't advocate for success with this deck. Another 5 tries and failed. This is not a good success rate at all. Again, the quest falls flat once you hit Stage 3B, and the whole deck relies on getting perfect, PERFECT opening hands...too perfect that relies purely on luck. Mulliganing with Nenya just isn't good enough. Thanks for uploading the deck. I know some work went into constructing it, but it's not very effective at all with this quest. As you said, "it's quite a bit of fun," but the fun lies in seeing how much you can build up Glorfindel with attachments. It does not become fun when you don't have enough attachments on him because you didn't get all of them in your opening hand.

And also, this was playing on easy mode where you get an extra resource and remove the gold-ringed cards. Still, extremely extremely way too hard on that mode, it's crazy. Pretty sure Caleb made a big mistake by either not making extra cards have gold rings or putting the rings on the wrong cards. This quest is enough to actually make me sell the whole set. It's that bad.
