Darkling Door 6121

This is a deck built from just Core Set + The Wilds of Rhovannion cards for Path Less Traveled, an ongoing series on my blog, Darkling Door.

Played Against: The King's Quest

Equipping the deck for success

This version of the minimum purchase Dale is better at questing and Location control than the one that uses Beravor.

Mulligan for: Either King of Dale (as long as you have some Dale Allies to play) or The Galadhrim's Greeting (which will help you stall for time while you get your engine set up).

Card Draw

The big difference between this deck and the Beravor version of the Dale deck is that this one has to work harder for its card draw.

  • Valiant Sacrifice isn't too hard to trigger, especially with Snowbourn Scout floating around.
  • Until the engine gets going, Gandalf should be used almost exclusively for card draw. Don't be afraid to play him at full cost, it'll be worth it!
  • If you can play an Attachment on a Dale character to trigger Brand son of Bain's draw, do it.

Tips

  • It's okay to use Sneak Attack on someone other than Gandalf. There's not enough card draw to guarantee you'll see them both at the same time, so just play the hand you have as effectively as possible.
  • Don't be afraid to chump block, even with Dale Allies. You can always bring them back later with Stand and Fight.
  • Éowyn relieves some of the pressure during the Quest phase, so feel free to hold back Brand son of Bain to get good use out of his stat.

I enjoy both versions of the minimum purchase Dale deck. This one would probably be stronger of the two in multiplayer, where its Location control and other support strategies can shine a little brighter.
