Conflict at the Carrock - Progression Series #5

Description

A pair of decks intended to be played against Conflict at the Carrock, for use in the Lord of the Rings: the Card Game Progression Series. Both decks start at 28 threat, with plenty of threat control cards in each (stay below 34 threat to avoid engaging with all four Trolls at once). Steward of Gondor is likely best to be played on Eowyn (to get out power cards like Unexpected Courage and Northern Tracker), and if possible, a Song of Wisdom works wonderfully on her as well (Forest Snare is nice insurance against Hill Trolls). The quest deck has a lot of cards to modify both the number of willpower committed to the quest and the threat strength of all encounter cards in the staging area, and should hopefully allow for the players to take things very slowly prior to hitting phase 2. Self Preservation can help keep Grimbeorn the Old alive if necessary, and the combat deck, once established, should make short work of the Trolls. Good luck!

What might you suggest for two cores?

For two core sets, the only omissions that someone would need to make would be a fewer copy of: Henamarth Riversong, Unexpected Courage, Celebrian's Stone, and Horn of Gondor. As a result, you can essentially substitute in anything you'd like - low cost allies would probably be the best fit. Post-nerf, I no longer think Horn of Gondor is very useful (at least, in the core set and shadows of mirkwood cycle), and Celebrian's Stone could be easily replaced by a cheap questing ally. Henamarth Riversong, in a two-player game, is really only used as a cheap blocker, so he's easily replaced. Unexpected Courage gives action advantage, so again, a cheap ally is a fine substitute. I hope that this advice helps, and good luck!
