Guily 36

Guily has a newer deck inspired by this one: Beorn's fate

Improved list under construction here : https://ringsdb.com/deck/view/155271

Purpose The goal of the deck is to play Beorn in solo, mainly. I really enjoy that hero, the way he is constructed, and the brutal power he brings on table turn 1.

I chose to accompagny him with representants of Imladris : Arwen and Glorfindel, adding questing power plus nice spirit tools and shenanigans to the picture.

History This deck was first built with Prince Imrahil (ally), to replace Beorn when the big bear is back healing his wounds in the carrock, and to help Elves to gather ressources for "Fortune or Fate". In a dozen games, Imrahil produced the amazing grand-total of one ressource, plus i never had problem to play "Fortune and Fate" when needed. I sent him back to outlands and called Treebeard instead, a choice I never regretted since. The game gained in fluidity and rythm.

A word about ressources management Actually, the deck is calculated to cost 3 spirit ressources for 1 tactic ressource, wich is conveniently what the heroes produces in one turn. But well, you know, the statistics lie often, and you'll sometimes have spirit ressources to spare but only tactics cards to play, or vice versa. This is why you'll find a Good Harvest/Stand and Fight in the list. I really enjoy how this cards ease the ressource management and never find it a burden in my hand.

The dexk is quite malleable : you can easily adapt the list to your own preferences without breaking it's mecanic.

Pro/cons

PRO's : Beorn ! Strong combat turn 1, good flexibility, have his chances against most quests. Stand&Fight Shenaningans

CON's : not specifically designed for multi but adaptable (add Westfold Outriders instead of Galadriel's Handmaiden for exemple), fragile allies.

Features

Action Advantage: Beorn (multi-defense), Light of Valinor, Treebeard Action capacity

Ressource generation: Arwen

Ressource smoothing: Stand and Fight / a Good Harvest

Drawing: Elven-light, Ancient Mathom

Location control: West Road Traveller, Steed of Imladris (Thror's key in heavy-location quest)

Encounter control : A Test of Will, Hasty Stroke

I think this deck could have a great use of Prince Imrahil. If Beorn falls, you'll temporary have a 3rd spirit hero, which will help you to play Fortune or Fate faster.

@wehehe Prince Imrahil was included on several games, but showed to be never decisive. I was always able to play Fortune or Fate at the phase Beorn died. But it could works and it's not a dumb inclusion at all in the deck.

i would prefer beorns rage over close call. then it is also more multiplayerable. or did you often loose him by more than 2 damage at once? if not, beorns rage is allways better than close call.

and, because u have a good harvest,i would add at least 1 asfaloth, replace for 1 fortune or fate.

Yes, Beorn's rage fits perfectly, but i like the flexibility of Close Call in solo. Close Call has some advantages too :

  • It's free, so you don't have to spare a ressource on Beorn in case of you need it.
  • It's not limited to Beorn or to combat phase.
  • You can absorb any amount of damage. I agree that in multiplayer, Beorn's rage is quite more playable, but the purpose of this deck is to play Beorn in solo, mostly.
