Shadow and Flame

  • +1 Frodo Baggins for immediate Balrog defense.
  • +3 Dúnedain Wanderer as these are cheap to get out early when threat is below 20, can be burnedusing Protector of Lórien to boost Frodo's defense if they're too expensive, and at 5 printed cost are useful late game as discard against he Balrog.
  • +3 Risk Some Light for encounter deck manipulation since there are lots of nasty buffs to Durin's Bane.
  • +3 Resourceful because we need to build an ally army. Hope to draw one or more of these early. Fine late game to buff Frodo or discard against the Balrog.
  • +3 Timely Aid for same reasons as Resourceful.
  • +3 Out of Sight. Hope to draw this early while it's discounted and buy a turn or two of breathing room so we don't have to take threat increase from Frodo defending against the Balrog.
  • -1 Dwalin. Could be useful to help reduce threat with the Goblins in the encounter deck, but we need a defender from turn 1 who can survive the Balrog attacks.
  • -3 Mirkwood Runner. Could work well against all the Goblins, but prefer to focus on dwarf synergy for this deck.
  • -2 A Burning Brand
  • -3 Dúnedain Cache
  • -2 Steward of Gondor. Hope to draw this in the early game to get the ally army going, but for this scenario, prefer Resourceful since it's not restricted, costs 1 less in the early game, and provides a bigger discard punch in the late game when trying to defeat Durin's Bane.
  • -2 Lure of Moria
  • -1 Parting Gifts
  • -2 Untroubled by Darkness

Foundations of Stone

Adding Dúnedain Cache to this to counter the Moria Bats.

The Long Dark

Looks to be a combat heavy quest.

Putting Bifur back in even though Denethor would be a better defender because Bifur's resource smoothing ability will help get allies out. Hope to get Protector of Lórien and A Burning Brand on Bifur sooner rather than later. Otherwise, Dáin Ironfoot will be primary defender and use Erebor Record Keeper/Unexpected Courage to re-ready him to other dwarves get the attack boost.

Mirkwood Runner is back in the deck because there are lots of orcs/goblins and a fair number only have 2 hp, so the runner can kill them outright. For the others, he can soften them up or be a finisher.

Parting Gifts brings back some more resource smoothing to make sure Lore has what it needs to fuel the deck. Can also funnel some resources to Spirit since Dwalin will often be paying into Lore using Bifur's ability.

Untroubled by Darkness added in for some willpower boost against the underground locations, although if this deck gets its ally engine going, this probably won't be necessary. More of a bailout card.

Watcher in the Water

Strategy: Get through the first phase as quickly as possible, balancing speed with trying to get one of Son of Arnor + Forest Snare OR Denethor/Henamarth Riversong. If the former, use the combo to neutralize The Watcher and kill it for the required VP. If the latter, scry and open the Doors of Durin.

  • +1 Denethor
  • +2 Son of Arnor: Tech card to snag The Watcher without having to reach its threat threshold.
  • +2 Forest Snare: Tech card to neutralize The Watcher.
  • +2 Common Cause: Tech card to provide an escape hatch for Wrapped!
  • +1 Unexpected Courage
  • +2 A Burning Brand
  • -1 Bifur
  • −2 Parting Gifts
  • −2 Mirkwood Runner
  • −3 Ancestral Knowledge
  • −2 The End Comes

Road to Rivendell

Strategy: Try to sprint before dealing with lots of Orcs and building up a potential massive attack via Orc Ambush. If this fails, Protector of Lórien plus A Burning Brand on Bifur as defender and Dwalin paired with Mirkwood Runner to kill off orcs. Swarm with dwarves to get through enemies using Lure of Moria if really behind on the board and in jeopardy.

  • -3 Strider's Path
  • -3 Untroubled by Darkness
  • -2 Ever Vigilant
  • -2 Northern Tracker
  • -3 West Road Traveller
  • +3 Durin's Song: Provides attack and defense for a combat heavy quest.
  • +3 Lure of Moria: Insurance in case of overwhelming attackers from Orc Ambush.
  • +2 The End Comes: Tech card for Orc Ambush. Use it to reshuffle the encounter deck if there have been lots of enemies and there's still at least one Orc Ambush in the encounter deck.
  • +2 Mirkwood Runner: Always attacks for 2 damage, which will kill many enemies outright. Can act as a finisher for damaged enemies with more health.
  • +3 Zigil Miner: Cheap dwarf with average stats who gets a nice boost from Dáin Ironfoot.
