This deck was inspired by two decks: Grimbeorn's Path by Beorn (https://ringsdb.com/decklist/view/15768/grimbeornspath-1.0) and Strength and Courage ft. Grimbeorn by Seastan (https://ringsdb.com/decklist/view/19204/strengthandcourageftgrimbeorn-1.0). I love the idea of a Grimbeorn the Old Forth, The Three Hunters! deck, but wanted to see how else you could build it, especially without using The One Ring or Steward of Gondor (both of which are part of other decks I might occasionally pair this with). This is the result.

The basic strategy, like most Three Hunters decks, is dump restricted attachments on characters really fast so that you can flip the contract. Once you've done so, you can be a bit more selective and fine-tune the attachments on your characters. Círdan the Shipwright drives the card-draw, and having a Noldor in the deck gives you access to Elrond's Counsel. Having both Cirdan and Éowyn gives you 8 questing power from the start, and Eowyn's attachments allow her to use that questing power in defense (Golden Shield), and occasionally in attack Herugrim, with easy readying from Snowmane.

Where the decks that inspired this one outshine it is in generating massive attack values out of Grimbeorn. Without Strength and Courage or Gondorian Fire, it is hard to get up to the really crazy numbers. The ability to power Eowyn in attack or defense, however, helps mitigate that somewhat, as you can use it to buy more time to kill enemies in one extra turn, or contribute her to the attack.

Some particular notes on cards:

  • A number of the attachments are really here just to make it more likely I can flip the contract early. It is easy to replace cards like the Blade of Gondolin, the Dagger of Westernesse, or especially the Round Shield.
  • I kept Herugrim as a one-of, as in most cases it is more important to use Éowyn for defense, and in desperate need, you can activate her attack boost. It's a good later game card when you start piling up resources with nothing to spend them on.
  • This deck might be better swapping out the one Silver Harp for a third Strider. Alas, my third Strider is in a different deck! Silver Harp does play a useful role here, transforming Cirdan's ability into 'draw an extra card every turn,' so you could also push that up to a 3x, sacrificing something like Unexpected Courage, or Herugrim.
  • Steed of Imladris is useful for two reasons. One, it is a cheap restricted attachment. Second, and especially later in the game, I find myself with a bunch of extra cards, and it is nice to have somewhere useful to pitch them (including discarding copies of Elven-light that you start the game with or bring back into your hand).
