If you want to learn how to play a Caldara deck, check out my previous entry of this deck here: https://www.ringsdb.com/deck/view/197759

Welcome to one of the most weirdly named decks on Ringsdb! By this point, you probably want to leave and ask no more questions, but stay a while and listen. Take the time and learn to appreciate this space. Are you ready to join us here at the cult of the Turd Burglar?

Lots of people may say "you can't have a good deck with The Burglar's Turn," but I say to that "pundits said that Giannis Antetokounmpo couldn't be the best player on a championship team and then he dropped 50 points in a close out game in the Finals." Let me tell you something else. At Con of the Rings 2021, I went undefeated when I played my 2(!) different Turd Burglar decks (I shelved the contract for Mt. Gundabad instead of house ruling and we lost, the evidence speaks for itself). I'm not going dwell too much on the fact that it's a Caldara deck or that McDog basically carried the dead weight of Aaron's failed dwarf fellowship and my tactics version to victory in Belegost.

For Con of the Rings, I went for Power of Orthanc in the sideboard to help get rid of a couple of condition attachments (I mostly worried about Weighed Down in Ered Mithrin) and I dropped the 2 Hidden Cache to play them when the time arose. Unsurprisingly, I went up to 3 A Test of Will from 2 due to the increased player count.

The Turd Burglar also saw some changes from other posted decklist: I took out Citadel Plate and Raiment of War for Silver Lamp and Thrór's Key. Basically, the dumped cards left me a little cold; they certainly worked, but the restricted keyword occasionally caused a problem and they did not change my win-state much. I found Sliver Lamp to be a great addition in my games there and afterwards; the extra information can be huge for planning combat and knowing how to use Jubayr or Hasty Stroke. When people asked about sideboard cards before the Con, I recommended the key because of a couple locations that get X threat where X equals the amount of characters controlled by the player with the most. I never saw it when I needed it. Citadel Plate did makes its way back when someone else played Celebrían's Stone in a deck.

Overall, the deck worked well. No surprise, it's the Caldara deck that I've been playing for ages. My tactics version with Éowyn, Hirgon, and Théoden got some work in too, but it produced lesser results (I do tailor the Turd Burglar to that deck). You can't play the contract in every quest due to some mechanics, but for the majority of quests, it works and ends up being a very fun card to play (house rule Deep locations!). You never know what surprise may await you, even a stinky one!
