Saga 01 : Hobbit 1 : Quest 1

We Must Away Ere Break of Dawn

This is my deck I'm making for my progression Solo run of the Saga Boxes.... It has, for all practicality, a 100% success ratio.

• Restricted - Means only card available at the time of original release are allowed.
• Lax Treasures - Means that once a treasure is found you may use it in future quests even if you change your deck. This basically means that you can make a new deck for any quest in the Saga and keep your treasures. Which are, as rules written, only allowed to be used if you use the exact same deck in a future Saga Quest.

Deck Piloting Instructions

The goal of this quest is to finish it with all treasures acquired. This deck achieves this via Stalling, instead of Milling. This can be frustrating as you have to stall until you draw the TROLL KEY OBJECTIVE CARD. For the key is required to travel to the Troll Cave, which is where the Treasure is located. Also you need to ensure you have enough power to kill the trolls and quest past them while they wait their turn to be killed. At the same time you also need to have a copy of the TROLL CAMP in play, for the entire time you have Trolls around so you can remove Sacked! cards

So the goal is to stay on the 1st quest card as long as possible while you wait for the Troll Key (and purse if you are lucky) and a Troll Camp, as well as allowing you build up your quest and attack power.

• Mulligan for Henamarth Riversong / Song of Kings. As a lower priority option look for Imladris Stargazer.

• Use Henamarth Riversong at end of combat phase to peak the coming encounter card for the next round but use Imladris Stargazer before encounter reveal, as there is a chance she could be killed by a treachery.

• Eleanor is used to cancel "when reveals". She can NOT be used to cancel treacheries brought into the staging area by the crows. Her "draw" after cancel helps you, as it allows you to mill the encounter deck faster for the Troll Key. So as long as you have a single resource on her at all times for A Test of Will you can safely cancel any treachery that dose not have surge. You want to prioritise the cancelling of treachery Wind-Whipped Rain.

• The card draw in this deck is insane. Use Ancient Mathom and then fetch and recast it using Erebor Hammersmith. When you have 5 Dwarfs in play Ori will allow you to draw 2 cards per turn instead of one. Also Erestor adds another card draw when in play. Use Imladris Stargazer to stack a dead card into position so you effectively draw 3 cards a turn. Be careful with your discards though as Erebor Hammersmith only retrieves the first attachment card in your discard pile.

• Will of the West should be cast after you have dropped your threat with the 2xThe Galadhrim's Greeting and 2xDwarven Tomb. This allows fast redrawing of those cards. It is common to finish this quest with zero threat.

• Resourcing Targets are: Thalin + Steward of Gondor + Resourceful and Eleanor + 2xResourceful

• The two Fast Hitch cards go on Bilbo Baggins. He is safe to quest with until the 2nd Stage of the Quest if you wish. You need at least 1xFast Hitch to be able to remove the a Sack and take possession of an objective from the first named troll, Bert.

• Taking control of the objectives is a response and requires Bilbo Baggins to tap. So you can not use Fast Hitch to untap and then tap as this is done at action speed. This also means you can not gain two objectives off the same troll damage during combat if you have both objectives attached to the same troll.

• Remember the Trolls all have various effects while in play, the most important one is that, Tom forces you to only attack with a single character at a time when facing trolls. Thalin + Dwarven Axex2 + Khazâd! Khazâd! + Heavy Stroke will kill both Bert and Tom in a single attack. There is plenty of time to find these cards while waiting for the Troll Key Objective. • The highest threat card coming out of the encounter deck is 3 Threat.
