SleepingStar 70

Gondor themed deck for the Against The Shadow cycle and the thematically fitting The Massing at Osgiliath and The Stone of Erech POD's - has been successful through all 11 quests both in solo and double-handed.

  • Gondor swarm deck powered by effective resource generation to set up your board state quickly (Denethor, Steward of Gondor, Wealth of Gondor) and with options to resouce smooth as well (Denethor, Errand-Rider, Pelargir Ship Captain and Envoy of Pelargir).
  • Card draw through Valiant Sacrifice + Lothiriel's ability and Soldier of Gondor (can get multiple uses via Knight of Belfalas) to utilise the resources generated.
  • Set Denethor up as your key defender with Armored Destrier + Ancestral Armor and Boromir as your main attacker with Heir of Mardil + Valiant Sword. Don't be afraid to use Lothiriel's ability early on to either overcome an opening staging area with high threat or the benefit from allies entry effects to generate resources/cards.
  • There are some tools to deal with some of the challenges this cycle throws at you; Dunedain Remedy and multi-wound allies to handle Archery whilst For Gondor! has proven to be extremely helpful for Battle/Siege questing.

Sideboard for the purpose of Morgul Vale quest to both keep your threat down and have more time to set up your board state before engagin the Captains. Derufin to replace the captured Faramir.

What is exactly a sideboard?

@EloiOrigami A sideboard is essentially substitute cards, for where I have had to swap out cards from the initial deck. For instance, I was forced to swap out Faramir for final two quests per the quest rules.

I see. Why do you put though only a little number of cards in the Sideboard? Couldn't you have your whole collection there?

would add 1-2 Shining Shield i think you dont need the Valiant Sword the allies will do enough attack, and if possible would add an Hauberk of Mail

then the Visionary Leadership is important would max it.

you rarely will get through your deck, so, A Very Good Tale would fasten up your build.

if you want to be more flexible and effective, the standatrt Gandalf + Sneak Attack is nearly allways an improvement if ld is availaible

@EloiOrigami You could fill your sideboard with any number of cards if you wanted. Specifically with this deck, I have built it with the purpose of being fully Gondor Heroes/Allies and to playthrough the entire ATS cycle without any changes. Alas, I was forced into changes (and a few by choice) to overcome Morgul Vale in solo.

@doomguard Thanks for the feedback, I can definitely see the merit in your suggestions - there is a slight element here in trying to use cards that fit thematically and haven't seen much playtime (i.e. Valiant Sword). I was very stubborn in resisting Gandalf + Sneak Attack - it would have helped with Morgul Vale especially but have set strict deckbuilding rules for my full card-pool cycle playthroughs (only Gondor heroes/allies in this instance).

i can understand the pureness, and if you manage to win, great. it can also be used in the "race"-event on the lure. Pillars of the Kings is still pure and worth a consideration, i think.
