What about side by side with a friend?
The goal of this deck is to turn Gimli and Legolas into as big of defending and killing machines, respectively, as possible for a multiplayer setting. I brought this deck to Con of the Rings 2024 and had a lot of fun with it. It was especially good in Journey in the Dark when Gimli was able to defend the Balrog for the whole table every round.
Here are some highlights of the strategy of this deck:
-
Resource generation: Resources are generated with the good ol', tried-and-true Imladris Stargazer + Zigil Miner combo, along with some Hidden Caches and Ered Luin Miners for good measure. When you flip the contract, if you don't already have the stargazer + miner, go fetch them and play them.
-
Big Stats: Gimli can get up to 9 defense (or 10 with Arwen Undómiel) and Legolas can get up to 9 attack. They also can both quest without exhausting (via Light of Valinor and Strider). Use King Under the Mountain and Weather Hills Watchman to find the key attachments needed to get up to these ridiculously high stats, then defend and kill for the table lots of times with Armored Destrier and Unexpected Courage.
-
Multiplayer Support: This deck plays best in multiplayer. Once Gimli and Legolas can quest without exhausting, you can use their abilities for other players at the table, readying heroes as needed. You can also use Imladris Stargazer on other players as needed, give Arwen Undómiel's buff to someone else, and of course spread the love with Campfire Tales.
-
Card Draw: Use Legolas' ability on Elven-light for card draw and more fuel for his ability. Plus King Under the Mountain is great card draw.
I second your comment about this deck during Journey in the Dark—absolutely brilliant!
