Still working on this list, and I think the time I won was mostly luck.
Things I'm sure about: 1) Always fetch Wall of Trees. You explore before placing progress on the quest, so you can fetch another Wall of Trees. 2) Setting up Fireside Song is vital. 3) Save all willpower boosts for stage 3. 4) Use the Ring aggressively to avoid enemies.
Rule question: I read on Vision of the Palantir that Old Man Willow is not actually engaged. https://visionofthepalantir.com/2019/03/10/the-old-forest/ I don’t understand why cards like Out of Sight shouldn’t work. He’s “considered to be engaged,” with no restrictions added to that text. In the game I won, I did use Out of Sight to prevent Old Man Willow’s attack It seems that’s what the wording on those cards allows.
