The story that follows is SLIGHTLY Tolkien canon. It is not that ridiculous.

The Backstory

It was a legendary operation. The Dunadan Thurindir would journey with the wizards Alatar and Saruman to right the wrongs of Middle-Earth. However, there are many distractions in Arda. Thurindir and Alatar fell victim to side questing, and Saruman became enthralled with every Artifact he could find. However, he would almost immediately throw these Artifacts away. However, by happenstance or the guidance of the Valar, the company would succeed on its mission.

The Deck

I created this deck as a companion deck to my Vigilant Dúnadan power deck, found here: Gifts of Galadriel Vigilant Dunadan. To get a side quest completed as soon as possible, I need Thurindir, Alatar, and another Istari hero. So, I decided on Saruman, because the rest of my deck was amorphous and could be filled with Artifacts.

The Main Combo

Thurindir grabs Gather Information, Alatar and Saruman exhaust to complete it.

Player Count

This deck is mostly a multiplayer deck as it lacks a strong defense option.

Opening Hand

Lord of Isengard is a must in your opening hand. It will provide a steady flow of Artifacts for Saruman, of which there are many.

Questing

Arwen Undómiel, Rider of Rohan, Thurindir, and Alatar are great questers, plus the boosting Artifacts for Saruman.

Defense

The strongest defense option is Keep Watch. You Cannot Pass! can turn Alatar into a great defender for a turn, and Rods of the Five could enable him to use that twice.

Attack

Saruman plus an attacking Artifact can kill most things. Flame of Anor and You Cannot Pass! can help with attack, as well as a Rider of Rohan who does not exhaust to quest, or a buffed Chariot Racer.

Other Tricks

Emissary of the East and some Easterlings can act as a buffer against questing unsuccessfully. Radagast's Staff, Saruman's Staff, and Blue Staff can act as readying attachments for Saruman thanks to Rods of the Five. Arwen Undómiel can boost Vigilant Dúnadan's . Mirror of Galadriel is essentially an event that gives Saruman some resource icons.

Summary

All in all, this deck is a fun way to use some side quests without diving fully into a "Side Quest" deck. Saruman's "Use It, then Lose It" archetype supports well, because it takes up a good portion of the deck, and this deck had space for it. Enjoy your questing -- wait, is that a bird?
