“The Eagles are coming! The Eagles are coming!”

When the hosts of the Enemy multiply, raw strength is required to hold the line. Boromir, Captain of the White Tower, leads the vanguard alongside the Elven prince Legolas. But they do not fight alone. Guided by the wilderness expertise of the Ranger Beravor, they have called upon the great Eagles of the Misty Mountains. Striking from the skies, these massive predators tear through Orcs and Trolls alike, leaving nothing but feathers and cleared paths in their wake.

Note: This deck is built to be played using the original, printed text of the cards from the early days of the game. It intentionally utilizes the classic Horn of Gondor "leaves play" trigger with the Eagles, and the unrestricted readying of Boromir. If you are playing with modern errata, the Eagle economy engine will not work.

This and deck is the muscle of the fellowship. It is designed to engage every enemy on the board, defend massive attacks, and generate resources through the natural hit-and-run nature of the Eagles.

A Gift for the Ring-bearer: Your single hero, Beravor, has a very specific early-game job: find and play Fast Hitch directly onto Frodo Baggins across the table. This turns the Spirit player's Hobbit into an unstoppable quester and defender.

The Horn of Eagles: You must get the Horn of Gondor into play early. Your eagle allies like Vassal of the Windlord and Winged Guardian automatically leave play after they fight. Every time they fly away, the Horn gives you a resource!

The Ultimate Defender: Boromir is an absolute monster. Because his ability allows you to ready him by raising your threat by 1, he can defend against three enemies, and then ready again to attack them.

Air Support: Once you have Eagles on the table, attach Support of the Eagles to Boromir or Legolas. This allows them to add the massive stats of an Eagle to their own. Boromir can defend for 5+, or Legolas can attack for 6+!

Progress Through Violence: While the other deck focuses on , Legolas contributes by killing. Every time he destroys an enemy, he places 2 progress on the active location. Attach the Blade of Gondolin to him, and he places 3 progress per kill.

cards are expensive, and Eagles are designed to leave the board quickly. You are looking for your resource engine and your cross-table support pieces.

Mullilgan Priority 1: Horn of Gondor (Hard Keep)

This is the lifeblood of your economy. Your Vassal of the Windlord and Winged Guardian automatically leave play after they fight. If you have the Horn of Gondor attached to Legolas or Boromir, you get a resource every single time an Eagle flies away. You need this on the board by Turn 1 or Turn 2.

Mulligan Priority 2: Fast Hitch

You only have one hero (Beravor) generating 1 resource a turn. Getting Fast Hitch in your opening hand means Beravor can spend her Turn 1 resource to instantly attach it to Frodo across the table, freeing her up to exhaust and draw cards for the rest of the game.

Mulligan Priority 3: A Cheap Eagle (Vassal of the Windlord or Winged Guardian)

You need early board presence to deal with enemies. At 1 and 2 cost respectively, these give you massive, cheap and right out of the gate and will immediately trigger your Horn of Gondor when they leave.

Mulligan away expensive cards like Beorn, Landroval, or Eagles of the Misty Mountains. You will not have the money to pay for them early on. You can also throw away Support of the Eagles—it is an amazing card, but it does absolutely nothing until you actually have an Eagle ally on the table.

Just so you know, Horn of Gondor now does not activate when eagles leave play (only when allies are actually destroyed), and Boromir can only ready once per phase, so he can only perform 2 combat actions.

You are free to ignore these erratas, though, because this deck would have been very nice pre-errata with the synergy between HoG, Eagles of the Misty Mountains, Support of the Eagles and Boromir.

@Reddorf Oof, you're right, thanks. My collection is from the early days so I didn't realize there was an errata for HoG since I mostly play irl. I'll probably keep using the original version for now but I'll definitely add a disclaimer to the description.

Yeah, I also tend to use the original wording for stuff like Boromir and A Burning Brand.
