ottermanempire 16

ottermanempire has a newer deck inspired by this one: Aragorn plays the game by himself

Aragorn, one man army

Basic idea is that so many attachments revolve around Aragorn, and if you combine 3 hunters AND GW, you can actually get a bunch of those abilities humming.

Initial Setup

The Grey Wanderer: Setup with the Song of Kings. I know I know, it feels like a waste...but so much of the deck revolves around cards. I initially considered using Neutragorn (Aragorn) or the leadership version (Aragorn) but why not make this a challenge to do GW without Strider as the default attachment? Also the debuff on enemies and Tactics Aragorn's ability gave me some ideas.

Starting hand

You are trying to pull at least one of the following cards because you desperately need questing power:

Gameplay

Your main weakness is questing, BUT you should never struggle too much in combat.

Action Economy

Since you only have one character, you will need plenty of actions in order to defend multiple attacks and still hit back.

Special Interactions

Also, Aragorn's ability to pull in enemies after defeating one means you can leave an enemy in staging (bypass its attack) and pull it in to defeat it.

Roheryn allows you to potentially defeat an enemy before it attacks.

Card Draw

Foe-hammer, and Sword-sheath both give you opportunities to draw cards after defeating enemies.

Taking Initiative will reliably allow you to draw cards and deal damage.

Resources

  • Steward of Gondor always works...
  • The Grey Wanderer gives you a reliable 2 resources as well as resource smoothing (planning phase only)
  • Resourceful should only cost 1 as you'll likely be in secrecy for the first few rounds
  • Rune-master might also give you a couple free hand-outs

Defense

Dúnedain Warning is your secret to building up defense in a non-restricted way BUT you can also handle:

Healing

Athelas both provides both healing and condition removal.

The Grey Wanderer also gives you built-in healing from the beginning.

Attack

The attack frankly handles itself with this deck. You should have the action economy, plus War Axe synergizing with Golden Belt and Forth, The Three Hunters! should give you a solid base of

Weird points

Elessar seems like the most useless card in this deck, BUT it provides a couple things: it's your route to being able to equip Andúril later in the game, and it gives you the the extra if you happen to not have Steward of Gondor before equipping Gondorian Shield. I initially also used it to make Heir of Mardil work but since the card was useless unless you had this card, I decided against it.

I'm pretty sure that Ranger Summons works in this deck despite the restrictions! Might not ever get used, but it's a fun thing if you have too many resources. AND if you have Elessar equipped, you get that ability actually working lol.
