Premise

Defining what a solo Isengard deck looks like is not exactly easy. There are very few cards making up the archetype, and with their domain (the Doomed keyword) being so fundamental to many, many decks, building something unique for the people of Orthanc. This is my attempt to do just that, at least for solo. This deck really banks on the two Isengard heroes doing a lot of work early on, with Gríma being integral in reducing the heftily priced lore cards in cost while Saruman does a little bit of everything - giving you access to further resource acceleration in Legacy of Númenor and almost unparalleled tutoring with Word of Command. Your third hero is most of the time Gléowine or, if you want to play less aggressive and more controlling, Firyal.

How To Play

Beware, this is a difficult deck to really master! I usually mulligan for Peace, and Thought, since this deck wants to really see its options ASAP, especially since your heroes (apart from Saruman) have minimal stat output on their own. I like to use the readying of Saruman a lot early on to set up combos like Scroll of Isildur + Sword-thain + Bartering (potentially together with Horns! Horns! Horns! to give you an insanely cheap 4th hero) or get some early stat-monsters like Gandalf or Treebeard. Once your threat gets a little high, Helm of Secrecy can be used to fetch Aragorn and reduce it way back down again.

Considerations

If you really want to go all-in on running a somewhat shady hero setup, Denethor and Palantir are a thematic and intriguing option that provides loads of fun. Erebor Hammersmith can be added to further abuse Scroll of Isildur (especially in longer games), while Isengard Messenger is not a really good card but one I at least wanted to sideboard with this being an Isengard deck. The Wizards's Voice is a card I find a little too intense threat-wise in solo, but in quests really hitting you with big attacks (especially early on), it can be quite an efficient tech card here.

Enjoy!!!

You know you can put heroes as your hero list that are heroes because of messenger of the king

Yes, but Mormegil explicitly says the choice of MotK hero is flexible in this deck. Either Gléowine or Firyal can be good choices.

@Cooljeff123 Thank you though I know, I prefer not doing that a) because I often like some flexibility who I pick as MotK and b) because of people want to play with the last written ruling from Caleb on the matter, MotK triggers only after encounter setup. I doubt many people play that way (since his last oral ruling was that it should be set up before encounter setup), but I still want to leave it up to the individual player nevertheless. Thanks for your interest and thanks @Sackmoney for your help before I could get to it!

you obviously want to make it original content (with AleP At the End of All Things and/or the new allies could give boost) and for that i think it is good and themeful, beside the fact that Saruman transforms into Aragorn. stay in theme i would perhaps stay on Saruman and add Keen as Lances and/or Woodmen's Clearing to handle the thread

to make more of the much drawed cards you might never use i would perhaps add Protector of Lórien and/or Song of Healing

I agree @doomguard, they get a lot more tools with AleP!

I considered alternatives to Helm of Secrecy, but the problem with options like Woodmen's Clearing or Keen as Lances is the restriction of Saruman, who reduces their respective reductions to 1.

The thematic aspect of Helm of Secrecy is a little tricky indeed I find. It appears quite unthematic if you narrow it down to a physical transformation from a to b (though then the card would be weird thematically under all circumstances). But in a macroscopic sense, I even find it oddly fitting: After all, the threat to the cause of the Free People by the treachery of Isengard was at least partly alleviated by Aragorn stepping up as a uniting force. It is a stretch for sure, but one I feel comfortable with in the context of a card game (which is always going to be abstract to a certain level).

That has helped at least me to view the thematic concept of the card a lot less critical, even though I fully understand if you still find it unfitting in that sense since abstraction aside, what the card actually does in the game is just what you described, transforming from a to b ^^

at least a very creative point of view ;) i forgot the restriction of saruman thats why i do decks with him with either Council of the Wise (what is imo the most thematic way with option to reduce thread) and /or with Beregond and/or with Galadriel using all 3 options you can reduce threaf by 3 each round even with Saruman but that are completely other decks, just my thoughts.
