History :

The men from the South, guided by Kahliel, are here to help Aragorn and a few Dunedains to manage the threat coming from Angmar. A new friendship for Aragorn?

Deck tech

I decided to start with my dear Aragorn starting with Emissary of the East as a setup title for him, because all of my strategy is: Never quest, just defend!

To progress in the quest I have sure Harad allies that a native exhausting effect, and some Dunedain (thanks LA) like Beravor or the Bree-land Protector, but I need something to exhaust my character by another way, and recyclable! I need of 2 things to do this, Protector of Lórien and Salvaged Supplies, so, all allies without native exhausting effects are used to recover Salvaged Supplies after discarding it on Protector of Lórien (3 time per phase per copy) . Whit this trick i may put a lot of progress when i am ready!

The almost only target of The Last Alliance is Emissary of the East to avoid my quest failed and could put progress by Dunedain allies too! Sometimes Descendants of Kings to ready either Kahliel's Tribesman during a big attack, or Southron Refugee for 2 reductions, or for a rush to quick-pass a stage. Could be also interesting on Heir of Valandil for a big Firyal or Jubayr.

There is 1 copy of Kahliel's Headdress because there are a few scenarios where I have to explore a unique location immune to player card affect. Also that is very useful to recycle my discard pile.

It s a tricky deck, most efficient than i had supposed, and with a totally different gameplay! I really like it! Almost a pacifist deck as well, I just take some beating and pass the quest because my resilience.

In-game

Intruders in Chetwood: Ok, we started with a classic, a scénario I hugely played as a crash test when I build decks. It s a tier S one of the entire game IMO. It s not the harer, but still engaging, but I quickly realised that my deck was very solid. I take my time (Thorongil manage my threat), enemies are not a problem, and location neither because finally I cancel quickly a lot of "unsuccessful questing threat" because Emissary of the East. I managed a War Party round 2 with Aragorn + Gift of Foresight + Half-pint. I beat the scenario during my first attempt, and with a hard drawing of encounter deck (3 side quest, 1 that captured Iarion, 1 that stole my hand, and the last one (that I revealed round 2) that limited me to progress on the quests (max 3/round). I finished with a huge board. I think this deck can be go far ahead!

The weather hills: I like this scenario, and the Nightmare mode brings more pressures, especially with villagers you must rescue. It s a little "mechanic breaking" with my Dunedains because here I have to kill my engaged enemies and cannot keep them, but the encounter decks 1 and 2 spawn a lot of enemies so, I kept just the little ones and kill the others ;) Firyal was a big help to avoid the weather treacheries (and their surge due to the quest). I also beat it during my first attempt, pretty easily.

Deadmen's dike: aaaaaah, the favourite one of a lot of people (coucou Porti), probably one of the best scenarios of the entire game, extremely well designed, hard but fair, pretty perfect. But... I hate when the scenario touch my deck! But yeah, it s a good way to break/slowdown some big decks. I played it twice to win, during the first try I was overwhelmed by enemies. When you play Dunedain you must think about keeping the first enemy or not, because it discard from your deck every round. When I revealed my first Cursed dead (R4) and started the combat phase with 3 of them + 1 other enemy, I finally decided to kill everything except that dear Cursed deads :D It was a very cool game. I finished it with still 8 cards in my deck. What s happened during the 2 last rounds ? Thaurdir came, Jubayr defended it at 6 thanks Kahliel's Tribesman, and it took a huge attack. New round, 13 progress during the planning phase, no staging step, no sorcery, thanks good bye deads ;D

The Wastes of Eriador: I loved this scenario but more I play it, less I like it. It s too long, and, pretty rarely but, the Nightmare mode exacerbates this. And "cherry on the cake" the mechanic of Day/night break my deck twice! because 1. I can't keep the enemies engaged with me. And 2. I normally put progress on the quest during the entire round, step by step, pretty slowly, but here I can't do it half the time (during the Night). Anyway, it was even interesting to play. I retry 1 time to done it! And with a final very straight. 23 in the SA, thanks Emissary of the East with 17 character + Firyal and 3 Kahliel's Tribesman to avoid the failure! Then, 6 enemies engages with me for the combat phase, and 6 characters I had to exhaust after the Pack Leader engaged me (Its forced effect), After a brainstorming to keep enough to kill the Pack Leader, and some decisions like "which shadow I m going to discard with Jubayr and Armored Destrier, I finally won!

Escape From Mount Gram: This one is the opposite of the just above one, because Nightmare change everything! It from a difficulty 3 to 8, and very very more Interesting to play. Before played it I tell myself: it s going to pretty impossible" but finally... With probably some luck, like the rescue of Kahliel round 3, I beat it during my first try. I started with Aragorn because he is in the middle of my strategy/mechanic, because he starts with Emissary of the East on him! The biggest difficulty was the fact that Salvaged Supplies is an Item... So I'm staying a long time before rescue one of them to use my combo with Protector of Lórien to progress in the quest. It was a pretty great game I loved to play.

Across the Ettenmoors: I probably had some luck with the setup of the Encounter deck because I revealed "Lie Low " that only reduce the engagement cost of the enemies... I want to engage everything so... It was pretty easy. I had Gift of Foresight in my starting hand, with it I went quickly defend the big trolls. I traveled just 1 time to a Safe location (to gain 3 resources) and finished 3 of them in the staging area... Guys, I want kept my enemies close of me! ;D There are a lot of direct damages in this quest, but no problem.. I have some herbs and beers ;D The last quest reduce the of all damages characters... Nevermind, except with Firyal, I never quest!

Treachery of Rhudaur: I like a lot this scenario, I often played it in multiplayer, very good one! But this time, I played it like never I had played it, with none objective claimed, and With almost non progress on the quests lol. But I literally destroyed it! My deck is pretty slow to progress on the quest, but pretty fast to defend 3-4 enemies. So I kept my time, and when Thaurdir cames, my Guardian of Arnor defended at 6 with 2 Elessar. 2 rounds of progresses with my favourite combo Salvaged Supplies + Protector of Lórien and Descendants of Kings to make a big attack and.. see you soon in Carn Dum my dear Thaurdirounet ;)

The battle of Carn Dûm: aaaaah an epic sce atop, a classic, often a wall for the Beginners. Especially because the a rice location that gets Battle to the quest and the first enemy that is hard to kill in early game. But my deck doesn't care of Battle keyword and like the enemies in early! I quickly had Armored Destrier on Kahliel + Protector of Lórien, like a big tank! After some rounds I had to him Gift of Foresight... A wall! (Generally I put the first Gift of Foresight on Aragorn but depending on my board, in this case, I had 1 Kahliel's Tribesman in game + 1 in my hand, I preferred to stuff Kahliel with the protector because he was going to be my most fast tank! I waited to draw my Thorongil before advancing to stage 2, to reset my threat with Aragorn. Then, With a Big southern Tank + some Dunedain defenders, thaurdir was absolutely not a problem. And Firyal filtered to avoid the sorcery treacheries. It was a really cool game, and I definitely love this deck so much! Let's go to the last scenario!

The Dread Realm: This quest is pretty hard in solo, generally.. because this time it was extremely easy to win! Reanimated deads are a boon for my deck ;D I kick Daechanar's ass as well ;) And I even offered me the pleasure to avoid the forced effect of the stage 3! I committed all of my character to the quest, with Kahliel's Headdress + The Last Alliance ... 41 FINISHED!

conclusion

I absolutely loved to play this deck, after an entire cycle, I always feel like playing it, that is extremely rare. It was very strong, and with a gameplay totally different as usual. Also I recommend you to test it. Concerning the cycle, it s easy, for me, in nightmare, it is the best cycle of the entire game. Try it if it s not done yet!

Thanks for all of you that read me until here! If you have any questions do not hesitate!

Have fun
