Daily Challenge: Play Encounter at Amon Dîn with a deck starting at 38 or greater threat.

Deck Summary

Having to start with 38 threat offered an opportunity to explore the oft unused "Valour Action." Five events and two allies feature the Valour keyword hoping to make use of the mechanic frequently. The vast majority of Valour cards are in the Tactics sphere, so we have Beorn for combat and Aragorn for questing. Gandalf helps get to 38 threat and helps draw the deck a bit.

The main problem with the high threat is threating out, so we have Favor of the Valar and Secret Vigil for some threat relief.

Most of the allies are here for their willpower. The much-maligned Defender of Cair Andros gets his moment to shine as a 4-shield defender almost right out of the gate. Thematically he is a huge win in this quest as the orcs on 2B are remnants of an army that was defeated at Cair Andros. The Defender is here to finish the job.

Quest Summary

And finish the job he did. The Defender of Cair Andros came out early and did an excellent job relieving Beorn of his defensive role. To be fair, this quest is one of the top five easiest in the game (also one of the top five grisliest themes!) The only question was whether this deck could muster the willpower necessary to save the villagers. It took eight rounds to do so, but in the final rounds the team was questing for 9-13 which was just enough.

The only other question was whether the Valour cards would be a helpful inclusion. Gandalf was able to play Hope Rekindled twice during combat off the top of the deck which helped pay for otherwise unaffordable copies of Horn's Cry and Fierce Defense. Both events helped secure the win, so the Valour mechanic worked extremely well here.

Conclusion

I really enjoy the Daily Challenge for prodding me to build decks outside of my comfort zone. I'm not sure how this deck would perform against more difficult quests, but I kind of don't care. It was fun this time and that's pretty much all that counts!

8 completed rounds = 80 Total combined Threat = 48 Total damage on Heroes = 2 Cost of dead Heroes = 0 Victory points = 4 TOTAL SCORE = 126

Durins Father correctly pointed out in Discord that Warrior Sword is a better choice over the Daggers.
