is any part of this deck specifically for the ring goes south or is it a generally good deck

This deck beaten Ring goes South scenario, without any problems, but it was designed to beat also next Saga scenarios, especially Journey into the dark (it requires few changes in deck). Because it is Dale Deck - it is very strong and probably can beat most of scenarios.
