DECK NAME - Delay the Enemy

SETUP:

  • Best to at least draw 1 quest in the initial 6 cards.
  • Use Thurindir to grab Gather Information.
  • Other good cards to look for are Master of the Forge, Warden of Healing, Ranger Spikes, Test of Will, and Ghan-buri-Ghan

QUEST STAGE 1: Basically, you want to take as long as possible before moving on. Use side quests to take your time and set up for quest stage 2.

  • Arwen helps Beregond against Snow Troll
  • Ghan-Buri-Ghan is essential for questing again deep locations
  • Card Draw w Master of Forge, Deep Knowledge, Damrod/traps, Dunedain Pipe, and Sarn Ford Sentry
  • Dunedain Pipe is mostly used to shove Will of the West back into your deck to avoid losing it to Lost in the Wild treachery
  • Load up Song of Wisdom, 2x Burning Brand, Magic Ring, 3x UC, and Blood of Numenor on Beregond. Use ring to gain resources early if you can.
  • 2x Legacy blade on Damrod
  • Traps: hope to incapacitate Werewolves and Giant Spiders w Forest Snares and Ranger Spikes. Mostly due to their shadow effects. The giant spider effect on Beregond at the wrong time can kill you flat.
  • Threat reduction: 2x Woodmen's Clearing (4x w Will of the West), Double Back, and Beregond kept me alive for a 24 round game. Shouldn't be any issues.
  • INSURANCE AGAINST TREACHERIES: Will of the West can save you against "Lost in the Wild" which can force you to discard your hand if you don't have a Test of Will handy. I won my last run-through even though I had to discard 8 cards from my hand on turn 2. Power of Orthanc can discard "Weighed Down" rather than using a Test of Will.
  • If possible, use Scout Ahead to add a Werewolf, Lost in the Wild, or Giant Spider to the victory display. Snow Troll and Weighed Down are also good candidates.

If things go well, you will go through your entire deck and even use Will of the West to recycle before moving to stage 2.

QUEST STAGE 2: Hopefully, Beregond has plenty of resources to fuel Blood of Numenor. Always block Cold Drake with him LAST during combat. Use Damrod/Legacy Blade x 2 to hit Cold Drake for 6 attack each round.

QUEST STAGE 3: Nothing to say here. Just keep enemies from piling up and find Dragon Signs asap. No particular rush though if things are going well.

QUEST STAGE 4: The Cold Drake attack at the beginning of questing can be a huge problem if it means Beregond can't ready. Chump block with allies for this attack (Master of the Forge x3 are useless at this stage of the game). Then block enemies with Beregond during combat phase, taking Cold Drake last. Hit Cold Drake with Damrod and finally claim victory!
