After listening to the latest episode of CoTR, I started thinking about what a good fifth starter deck might look like. So I threw this together to see if I could make a deck with the following constraints:
1) It needs to use only cards outside of the reprinted content:
- SoM
- KD+D
- HoN+AtS
- VoI+R-m
- SoH+H
- SitE+VoM
- OHaUH+OtD
(Bonus if it doesn't use any cards in other starter decks, but for this one I just had to include Elrond's Counsel. I certainly wouldn't mind having three more copies of that card.)
2) It needs to be a viable deck on its own (able to beat more than just Passage Through Mirkwood and The Oath)
3) It must contain Fast Hitch as a usable card in the deck.
This is what I came up with. It's not the strongest deck ever but it's quite capable, and quite fun. The hero lineup is certainly not new, but the constraint of only using non-reprinted content was quite fun to work around.
Next up: starter deck #6 featuring Thurindir and the non-reprinted side quests.
