Mount Doom Epic Multiplayer - Specialist Deck Series

Description

These decks are designed to be used to take on the Epic Multiplayer mode for playing the final 2 quests in the Lord of the Rings Saga: The Black Gate Opens and Mount Doom.

There are a few differences between regular mode and Epic Multiplayer, to the extent that these may not be suitable to use outside of their intended purpose. The deck for Mount Doom in particular is somewhat reliant on the unique effect on the Epic Multiplayer card. The deck for The Black Gate Opens on the other hand is more generalist and should work in whatever mode you are playing.

Also of note is that we are not playing campaign mode, so the Wraith on Wings are once again absent. This is a big boost, particularly to the Black Gate deck, which will have enough going on with all the extra cards being revealed.

The overall strategy is to allow the Mount Doom deck to stay in secrecy as long as possible to simplify the questing effort on that side. We also allow the Eye of Sauron objective to move back and forth between the two quests. This allows the Black Gate deck to take away any Nazgul from Mount Doom without having it permanently subject to the detrimental effects of the objective card. It also means we don't have to take the threat raise on a regular basis. More detailed strategies for each deck are found in the individual deck descriptions.

Note that this was played with my physical collection, so there was a limitation on cards because of that. The decks are very different, so the effect is minor. This is the reason, for example, that the Mount Doom deck doesn't run Daeron's Runes, even though it would be a good inclusion.

In testing the decks won 2 out of 4 games. For the 2 losses, there was a one loss in each of the quests. There is a fair amount of luck required given the difficulty of the quests and the variable setups. For Mount Doom in particular it seems that the strategy is vulnerable to being derailed.
