The Wilderland Woodmen

Description

O! Wanderers in the shadowed land

despair not! For though dark they stand,

all woods there be must end at last,

and see the open sun go past:

the setting sun, the rising sun,

the day's end, or the day begun.

For east or west all woods must fail...

--The Fellowship of the Rings

The Wilderland Woodmen

For those who know me, it should come as no surprise that Woodmen are my favorite archetype in the game. There is something very satisfying about leveraging locations to your advantage, out-thinking enemies by evading them in the woods, and finding treasure in caves across Wilderland.

This fellowship is my love letter to the Woodmen archetype and illustrates all of their strengths. Check each individual deck list for how they run, but in general this fellowship operates by using The Burglar's Turn contract in one deck along with Widfast to churn out high-value attachments. The other deck is more of a "standard" Woodmen deck, and uses the two active locations each round to add support through all of the location attachments. As the game goes on and the attachments from the Burglar's Turn contract are added to your heroes, Rowan becomes an absolute brick wall of a defender, while Haldan and Lanwyn become killing machines.

Roaming Far and Wide

I have used this fellowship for quests in every single cycle of the game. I have won entire cycles on the first try, and have taken out a fair number of nightmare quests as well. There is a lot of nuance to the running of these decks, and a lot of mastery you can achieve with the Woodmen archetype with this fellowship.

Enjoy! and despair not o wanderers in the shadowed land!
