Hi these look cool. Have you actually tried them as a group of 4? We are having trouble with the first scenario uruk hai, mainly have to deal with location lock. Have u played it with these decks? Any tips? Thanks and good job

Thanks! We played these 4 as a group going through Journey Along the Anduin to test them out, and they unfortunately did VERY poorly (as in, lost 5 times in a row), so I've been on a journey to fix them up.

That said, here's a link to the updated versions of these decks: The Two Towers V3.0.

In short, the changes were:

  • Replaced Elfhelm with Theodred. Elfhelm isn't worth it with the small number of mounts I have.
  • Replaced Elrond with Halbarad. The Dunedain deck wasn't doing what the Dunedain deck needs to do, which is engage and deal with enemies.
  • Replaced Haldir of Lorien with Elrond. Turns out, Elrond plus Gandalf makes an extremely powerful deck all by themselves.
  • Replaced a bunch of cards, mainly thickening decks (removing cards and adding more copies of cards).

The new versions of these decks absolutely blasted through Journey Along the Anduin, so we'll be playing them against the first Two Towers scenario sometime soon.

If you're running into problems with locations, the absolute best card for them is Northern Tracker. Swap out 1x The Galadhrim's Greeting and 2x Miner of the Iron Hills (or other cards, if there are problematic encounter conditions) for 3x Northern Trackers. Make sure to mulligan until you get a Vilya, that way you can play them for no cost, because they are expensive. Other options for dealing with locations are Snowbourn Scout, Rhovanion Outrider, and Blade of Gondolin. If that still isn't enough, swap in Lorien Guide somewhere.

Thanks for the reply! We ll probably give them a go this Monday on the first scenario Uruk-hai. Our 3rd attempt, previous two were unsuccesful! Things to consider for this scenario is that one of each player's heros is held a captive and not playing, location lock is definitely gonna happen and that it probably needs hard questing from the beginning so maybe side quest cards are not easy to fulfill.. Good luck!

Yeah, that scenario is super tough. My group played it today, and our first resulted in a loss. Second time, though, we managed to win, though we had to switch the decks up a lot. Since each player loses a Hero to be a Captive, we chose Eowyn, Pippin, and Amarthiul. First time, we picked Theodred as the Captive for that deck, but we realized a big problem with resources and spheres. So the second time, we actually switched up the decks a lot. We swapped Merry and Legolas, then had all of the hobbits be Captives. We also switched a bunch of cards, like removing most of the Tactics cards from the Rider deck, and removing hobbit centric cards like Halfling Determination and In the Shadows from the Ent deck.

In the end though, Theoden and Theodred, Legolas and Treebeard, Amarthiul and Gimli, and Elrond and Gandalf managed to win the day. It got really close (we got up to 25 Pursuit), but we managed to whittle it down. Surprisingly, we didn't have a big problem with locations, and had problems with enemies and archery. The locations must have been shadow cards most of the time.
