I made this deck for the beginners out there who have decided to purchase the core set and Black Riders in order to get their feet wet. I've had some good success with it so far, beating the first 2 scenarios of the Black Riders.

DISCLAIMER: This deck includes two Core sets and two cards from the pack The Dead Marshes. It is possible to recreate this deck with one core and Black Riders only, but your results will greatly improve with the Dead Marshes pack due to Fast Hitch; I recommend proxy-ing the extra core cards, especially Faramirand Celebrían's Stone (this is not cheating imo).

On to the deck!

Opening Hand:

  • If you have Gandalf, keep the hand. If you have Frodo's intuition, keep the hand. Otherwise mull for them. Steward is nice too, but draw is more important I'd say.

General Strategy:

  • Sneak attack Gandalf, Sneak attack Gandalf, Sneak Attack Gandalf. Seriously, this is your bread and butter. I almost always draw with his ability since the only other good draw in this deck is Frodo's Intuition (fortunately Frodo's intuition is really good draw though). Occasionally I will use the other options, namely, to hurt ol' Bill Fernie in the A Knife in the Dark scenario (more on him later).

  • Put all of the attachments on Sam first. Extra Fast Hitches can go on other Heroes after Sam. In the first scenario make sure to ready the Fast Hitch'd characters before staging, but after you've committed them to the quest (they will still be considered committed to the quest). You want them ready for hiding.

Allies:

  • Gandalf: Did I mention to sneak attack him? Classic combo, still OP. It's ok to play him the hard way if you have the dough.

  • Faramir: Integral to making this deck sing. Really bolsters the Ally Swarm style. Don't forget that he can be played after staging but before quest resolution. Also, dont forget to commit 0W allies to the quest if need be since Faramir will give them +1W.

  • Everyone else is pretty straight forward I think. Henamarth is especially awesome in solo play.

Attachments:

  • Like I said, everything goes on Sam, well except for the daggers and elf-stone.

  • I included Forest Snare just in case an enemy gives you a hard time, but it could easily be replaced with an additional copy of any card you want.

Events:

  • Between Faramir, Halfling Determination and Frodo's intuition, this deck can pump out some serious WP in the mid-late game. There's also the added bonus of using Halfling determination for combat on Sam or Merry.

Sideboard:

  • First off, Frodo must be in this deck for Saga play, but I included 2 Gleowine and +1 Halfling determination in the side board in case you wanted to take this deck out of the saga environment and maintain some draw power.

  • Lastly, Son of Arnor is there strictly if you want to pull Bill Fernie down from his perch.

I hope you enjoy this deck!

I'm excited to try this deck. I used the FF suggested deck and got hammered by first two times through. I can see the value of fast hitch and Faramir in here, that might make the difference for me.
