Copterman 1027

DECK NAME - Birds

https://youtu.be/gJhCuSl5iSo

Tried to create a solo deck that controls some of the swingyness of this quest. Think I've succeeded.

QUEST STAGE 1 - It's important that you do not move on from this stage until you're ready.

  • Mulligan for a Northern Tracker. This is priority #1. If you don’t get Northern Tracker in opening hand, hope that Beravor’s ability in first 2 rounds will draw one NT. SO SAVE YOUR SPIRIT RESOURCES until after Beravor draws in round 2 planning phase.
  • Other good cards in opening hand would be Gleowine, Song of Kings/Steward of Gondor, Henamarth and Hasty Stroke.
  • Use Beravor's draw ability every round if able.
  • Round 1, do not commit anyone to the quest. Protects Eowyn and Eleanor from killer revealed effects. It's okay to fail as Gandalf/Sneak Attack will keep threat under 50 easily.
  • Round 2, put out Northern Tracker, this allows you to move Rhosgobel location to the victory display on Round 5, so that you can begin healing Wilyador during stage 1.
  • Henamarth is super important early. Exhaust him during combat to know how to handle questing the next round. 3x copies means he's also a good chump blocker early if in a pinch.
  • When Rhosgobel is gone from the staging area, feel free to use 3x Lore of Imladris to heal Wilyador of 15 damage. Radagast can also chip away at health, but I prefer to save up 5 resources before healing due to Stage 2 effect.

HEROES

  • Eleanor - can defend some but mostly there to cancel treacheries
  • Beravor - the star of the show. Attach 2x Burning Brand, Protector of Lorien, Song of Kings, Steward of Gondor, and 2x UC. Always use ability.
  • Keep heroes healed using 2x Daughter of Nimrodel.
  • Miner of the Iron Hills can discard Caught in a Web, but can also chump block early if a big enemy engages.

QUEST STAGE 2

  • Since we took our time in Quest Stage 1, Will of the West allows us to recycle any Lore of Imladris in the discard pile as well as Sneak Attack/Gandalf.
  • Remember that any card that heals Wilyador is removed from the game. So this is why we want to save up 5 resources on Radagast.
  • Complete stage 2 when you know the Wilyador damage/Athelas math adds up.

MISC

  • Save 2x Forest Snare for Ungoliant's Spawn and Chieftain Ufthak
  • Haldir is the only ranged character (with Wilyador) for dealing with birds/bats. You can leave those enemies in the staging area early on.
  • 2x Song of Wisdom for resource smoothing.

Cool deck! Started the scenario, became pretty clear I would win, didn't finish. One question: What are your thoughts about including a creature (eagle or The Riddermark's Finest to handle the Frightened Beast, or maybe another ranged character like Silverlode Archer to handle the attack better than Wilyador can? I like to keep the staging area as clean as possible. I would potentially sub those in place of Protector of Lórien? I find by the time I have cards to throw to Protector of Lórien, my board is in a pretty good questing and defensive position. But on the other hand, this deck is clearly successful, so I can see why you wouldn't want to mess with it too much. I'm just asking your perspective.

@Ancalagon Hey there! Thanks for your comment. Riddermark's Finest would be a good inclusion for that purpose. Just not really a concern as threat isn't a big deal in this quest. Also Silverlode isn't a fantastic card and since it's in the off sphere in this deck, I don't think I would personally include it. But I'm sure there are some improvements that can be made to this deck. Protector of Lorien is just there to keep from taking damage since healing is reserved for Wilyador in this deck. Cheers!

I went in blind to this quest with this deck and just glanced at the first couple items in the description. It was a blast!

@Catdad thank you for letting me know! Are you new to game? Welcome, if so! Best game around. :)

@Copterman I’m fairly new, yes. Within the past 6 months but have pretty much devoted every waking thought to the game

weird it looks like it cut off the rest of my comment. I was saying my deckbuilding skills need work so decks like this are really helpful.
