lleimmoen has a newer deck inspired by this one: Mount Doom Deck

When I first encountered the Mount Doom quest I found it ridiculously hard (having had played all the quests prior to that). It made me for the first time deck build directly for the quest, and also include the Fellowship sphere cards (which I never do otherwise). Thanks to the contract which is otherwise not my favourite this deck allows me to win a majority of the games against this scenario and turn a nightmarish gaming experience into a thrilling one.

To those who have had a similar experience, this is most recommended!

I am surprised not to see Raiment of War or Unexpected Courage. A Burning Brand and Cloak of Lórien would help with defense.

Hi, how does it work with Raiment of War, does it add two willpower with this contract? I thought I read it didn't... anyway, the reason behind most of the cards is the cheap cost. Even with this version of Frodo and the discount, you want the attachments as cheap as possible. I often get to flip the contract (even with these four heroes) at the end of round 2, which is of course amazing for the latter stages. For that reason I have Round Shield, it does not bring much to the table but it can go on everyone and is free anytime: super useful. Miruvor is much better than Courage here as it is no problem to pay for it repeatedly, it is a problem however to pay 2 for UC, especially as it is not restricted. A Burning Brand would be a good option but in my last 10 games I think I defended maybe 14 times, some games not at all. When I win I usually end up at 31 or 34 threat (five or six full rounds). Cloak of Lórien is great in my other Erestor decks, here totally useless. Only the best non-restricted cards make the cut, and I decided that 28 restricted attachments is a healthy ratio. From those last 10 games against Mount Doom, I won 8.

That is a very impressive win rate, costs make sense. However, Raiment of War does give two willpower and will help you flip faster. I would think that balancing away from Spirit so you could remove Song of Travel would be nice. However, this build looks great.

Thanks a lot. And thanks for clarifying on Raiment of War, I really like that card in general and if it indeed grants two willpower once the contract is flipped then it certainly is worth the cost, the Tactics resources are also usually plenty from round three on. I will try to swap it in for something. Song of Travel is usually great because most of the other than Spirit resources are not so need it and once there is Elven-light, you can draw a lot. Only Glorfindel can be targeted with Raiment but that is fine, I usually target him with it in other decks to boost his hit-points and let hit take undefended attacks. Funny thing in this deck is that although I defend very little, everyone has defended at least once in those games. Lastly, mind this is only built for Mount Doom, it will be useless in many other quests, I fear.

@lleimmoen Just to be sure of having understood correctly, how do you end on 31/34 Threat after 5 full rounds? From what I can see 21 + (3x5 in the Refresh) =36 threat at least, possibly higher. Also how do you handle Heavy and Tired?

There is this Dry Watercourse that lowers the threat by five. I plan for Heavy and Tired especially, trying to equipe Erestor so that he gets it, he quests, so there is no exhaustion penalty (already exhausted) and after that he cannot fortitude test but I am yet to fail one, usually exhausting just one hero. In those last ten games (only played once after that, and won) I think I got Heavy and Tired four times (once both copies) but it was not a big problem. I had to learn the encounter deck very well first though. The hardest treachery is the one with the Nazgul picture (won't search for the name) that adds an enemy engaged with you. You can luck out with the Snuffler or Gollum but it could also ruin the game.
