Here is my try to build a Beorning deck for multiplayer, using the alep themed cards (especially Birna, Osbera and Beorn's welcome).
My idea is never to build a deck for thematic reason but for getting the most efficient possible of a synergy. That is why I have absolutely no problem using as many cards outside of the theme as I want. I sure have a little voice that make me want to use those cards that was never played before. But efficiency is my goal, as I also like to play the really hard quest (I prefer to play the challenging scenarios, either they are nightmare or just hard quests).
Beorning are very good in the fighting area and building this deck for multiplayer purpose allow me to use it as his best. We have many good blocker and attacker and with Osbera ability we have up to 7 willpower (or threat annulation, who is quite similar) to bring quite quickly but we will never put many more so we need other decks that are way more into questing than fighting. The heroes are not only beorning but they also work quite well with Osbera abilities from both faces and beorn's welcome.
The deck basically have 3 pools: 1/ The generic cards such as secret vigil, feint, daeron's rune, deep knowledge, quickbeam and warden of healing. They have no specific synergy for this deck, they are just great for every deck in multiplayer (and for decks in general for most of them).
2/ The heroes build-around. For Osbera it is usually only leather boots and beorn's welcome but she can also have gondorian shield or even war axe if she is still flipped during your turn (you usually don't want that though). Grimbeorn is the main target for both beorn's welcome, gondorian shield, war ave and warrior sword. The weapons are quite good since they allow you to often kill an enemy when blocking with grimbeorn. We also play foe-hammer so we can draw cards. Gondorian shield is not as good, we don't really plan to become gondorian, but it is sometime precious since we don't heal or prevent quick enough. We have no difficulties to play sterner than steel with all those attachments on grimbeorn so we want to play it. With Birna only the third beorn's welcome is really usefull even if shen can officially wear a any of the weapons it won't be of any use.
3/ And then there is of course the ally beorning theme! You have many beorning allies but the one that is key is beorning skin-changer. In combo with Birna. First we play the skin-changer and bring any good beorning we have. It is good. Then you can pay 1 with Birna (possibly returned by beorn's welcome) and brought him back in play. And redo his ability to bring any beorning in play. So birna will shuffling him back anyway but you will have gain a large beorning this way. In the mid game you can also make things goes faster by having a beorning pony discard cards from the top of you deck in order to found a beorning to bring back in play with the skin-changer (who himself was brought back with Birna, did you still follow? ^^).
The sideboard is something I used to adjust depending on the other deck I play with, I never adjust regarding the quest. The main change You can do is to swap beorn ally for his hero counterpart. It is especially useful is many fight is needed around the table since the start of the game. In order to do that just remove the beorn ally and the messenger of the king contract, add 2 birna allies in the deck (now you have to draw and play her). When you want to put cards in the deck you can remove cards like gondorian shield or leather boots if they are not good in the situation (for example if better defense boost are available from player to put on your grimbeorn), remove quickbeam or warden if someone else want to play them. Or even consider to remove a few beorning (guardian or giant bear) if there is too much fight at the table. There is not that much cards in the sideboard because the deck already play the polyvalent cards anyway. The honour guard are here only if beorn is play because it is one of the rarest way to prevent damage on him (of course Osbera is another way of doing so).
Thanks for your attention, see you soon!
