While Word of Command is a strong tutor effect and there is card draw in the deck, there are so many important one-of's in this deck that I would still advise to think about which cards you find most important to the deck's strategy and cutting some other cards so you can double up on the important ones.

thanks for the comment man! i've dismantled that deck entirely as with current set of cards that we have i simply am unable to build a decent gandalf centered deck :(

Well I think you are on the way to a decent gandalf deck for sure. While I do not know exactly which cards you have, based on the cards in this deck you could probably make a pretty viable Elrond Gandalf Glorfindel deck.

The general idea of those decks is to have Vilya and Wizard Pipe in play (so include 3 of those in the deck) and then loading up the deck with a combination of expensive cards to play for free and good attachments that synergize with your heroes.

Most of these cards are already in your deck to begin with, they just need to be in there more in favour of some others that play less key roles.

I'm sure if you searched this site or the internet in general for Gandalf/Glorfindel/Elrond decks that you will find a lot to draw inspiration from, it is not an uncommon deck archetype.

this is what we got so far oi64.tinypic.com - i tried with Glorfindel - worked bit better buuuut to be honest i've managed to pull a more viable Elrond/Glorfindel/Legolas deck/ This game has scenarios hard a hell! (and 2 heros deck falls on it's face if you don't draw what you need on your hand)

Especially when limited in card pool, I think the general idea of lotr lcg is to deckbuild against each scenario individually. While there are a lot of scenarios that follow a general mold, there are also some scenarios that have very specific mechanics in it that are often completely undone by building a deck in a certain way.

For example, Shadow and Flame has you starting at 0 threat and the balrog that attacks you for 6 each turn if your threat is 1 or more. Brutal for most decks, fairly easy if you have Galadriel on your side.

Another scenario might be very location heavy and be almost impossible with a general deck and almost trivial with a deck built around location management.

It is certainly possible to make decks that fair well against most scenarios (even some of the very specific ones) once your cardpool grows, but even then some scenarios will still cause problems due to very specific mechanics in it.

noticed that yes :) game is very cool mainly because the scenarios are hard and you need to rebuild/build around them :) however i get the feeling that this is a insane money drainer as i.e with our current set of cards - barlog and shadow and flame is extremley hard to go through - need 2nd core set plus at least one more expansion - and goddamn they aren't cheap! :) and folks tell me LCGs are cheaper than CCGs :D on a side note - i'd love to see a deckbuilding game set in lotr (like legendary series etc)

Well, it is a 'cheaper' formula. But there is a lot of room between "cheaper than a CCG" and "actually cheap" :)

Some of the harder scenarios are still quite challenging/rewarding in 'easy mode' (see rulebook). Especially when you are still building your cardpool I would suggest playing the harder ones that way.

I wouldn't suggest buying more than the second core set. The value proposition of a 3rd core is pretty low. Very few of the core one-of cards are of the "need 3 of them in my deck" quality. (And even then there is always the option of proxying the 3rd copy, depending on how open one is to that idea. If its just for kitchen table gaming, I don't see a problem with it).

it's also usefull as a second big box to keep cards in :) thanks a lot for all the feedback!! :)
