This 53 card deck actually has 50 cards in it, because for Setup you take out ‚The One Ring‘, ‚Power of Command‘ (both should be attached to Frodo) and ‚Gather Information‘. Search your deck for ‚Saruman‘s Staff‘ after exploring the sidequest. Saruman also gets the ‚Dúnedain Warning‘ and the ‚Legacy Blade‘ so that he can either defend or attack (or both, if you can ready him by playing any doomed card).
When triggering Frodo‘s response, I normally choose Saruman to ready, but in some instances I‘d take another character (e.g. Thurindir if you know there‘s a terrible enemy coming from the encounter deck and you want the possibility to play ‚Quick Ears‘).
When playing a quest with a lot of thread-raising effects thrown against you, you may consider to leave ‚The One Ring‘ and the two Master-Cards in the binder for this time.
!!! ‚Close call‘ is a proxy for the new ‚Reckless attack‘, ‚Power of Orthanc‘ for ‚Defiant Challenge‘ (if there are no treacheries with conditions in the encounter deck) !!!
