A relatively simple to use take on the dwarf swarm. It's best supplemented by a deck that can take the early game pressure off while the army is mustered. My wife likes this deck a lot, she just gives the exceedingly unattractive dwarves more attractive pet names. It's good for introducing players to the game as there aren't any crazy shenanigans required for success like allies leaving play, looking at the top 5 cards of your deck, sorting through your discard pile, or peeking at the encounter deck.
I have steward because why not, but it isn't required with Thorin if another player wants to use it. If you absolutely need cancellation, drop Thorin for Oin or Nori. If you have some horrendous shadow effects, drop Thorin for Balin. Otherwise, you're good to go.
