I have always loved the idea of a huge super deck but the practicality and decreased efficiency that accompanies going above 50 cards always limited that dream to fun but non-competitive decks.

That is no longer the case, enter A Perilous Voyage.

The advantage of the contract is that you actually can go through your deck and find key cards at a faster rate despite having double the amount of cards. This is because you get to go through 3 times the amount of cards each round. So with the increased card draw and the ability to search your entire deck and play any card at the contract flip point (with a cost reduction of 3 at that!) what is needed is a way to play those cards.

With a mostly tactics allies with some lore deck and most of the heroes being able to use their resources for generally either sphere you have a lot of resource smoothing. Most rounds I am able to comfortably play 2-4 allies between Vilya, Radagasts staff cost reduction, Hirgon’s cheaper ally post questing and then of course playing a normal ally. Your board state rapidly accelerates and I haven’t lost yet on the nightmare and POD quests I’ve tested it on so far. But I want to run it against more quests that really punish you with threat raising as that is the one weak point of this build.

For how to play it:

Mulligan for any combination of Vilya, Radagast’s Staff, or Word of Command. It’s also nice to get the Imladris Stargazer and Zigil Miner in play for that cool resource acceleration combo.

If it’s a particularly hard for threat or long quest then you may get to the contract flip. At that point grab either Vilya or the Staff if you haven’t got it yet or choose any ally you want and play it for the epic cost reduction of 3 since Elrond lets you pay for any ally. I recommend Firyal, Jubayr or Treebeard as they are amazing but you have tons of options.

Also remember two things, on A side you don’t have to go for the threat raise card draw if your hand is already packed so it will keep you from threating out too soon. Also remember that on the B side the heroes don’t exhaust quest so setting up and playing Vilya should be reserved for after you are already questing with Elrond.

Hope you guys get to try out this new contract and the fun it provides!
