This is the latest deck in my attempt to conquer the Nightmare version of the Grey Haven cycle using thematic decks. The theme I'm following allows, hobbits, Gondor, Gandalf, Noldor, Outlands, Harazd. The Drowning Ruins is a very challenging quest that restricts the play of both followers and attachments. Since there is more punishment for followers, I decided to try a 3 Hunters deck. I spotted a Gandalf deck that gave me the 3 heroes I think I need to withstand this challenging quest and started rebuilding from there. Beregond is really going to need all the help you can give him in this scenario! Giant Sharks and underwater giants are just big and nasty. Get all the shields belts and armor and Unexpected Courage on him you can. Meanwhile, Arwen gets everything that makes her a better quester. When playing against the Drowning Ruin, make sure you are giving Captain Sahir a resource every round and sending him on the quest as well. Naasiyah can help on the quest the first couple of turns but then she is there to strike after Beregond blocks. Thror's Key is helpful in blanking some of the nasty locations that are automatically placed into your staging area when you clear an underwater location. Gandalf's staff can be used early for resource generation or cards, but he really needs to protect Beregond as well. There are some nasty shadow effects in this quest and a 3rd hasty stroke is not a bad idea instead of one Elrond's Councel or the Dwaven Tomb. My best of 5 record with this deck was 2-3, but it took me a bit longer to learn how to play this one properly and in best of 7, I went 4-3! This is a very fun quest which has you running for your life from sharks or a horde of underwater undead in the end.
