This deck is perfect in his supporting/defensive role on a group of interconnected decks, specially, if the other decks are oriented to fit other roles specially questing. The deck is a combination of Secrecy mechanics and controlling the staging area from enemies. With a single hero and his low threat, he will be almost without the risk of confronting enemies except when he desires to engage them, which is always better to do it on other player’s benefit by using Grimbeorn’s sentinel ability, as his rebuking ability allows him to give the attack back in response even in other player’s area. However, the deck is pretty straightforward and not very complicated of been used, focusing in the figure of Grimbeorn as the main defender of the whole party, and by activating his ability for attacking back de-buffing the enemy’s defense. Nevertheless, even when the deck doesn’t excel on it, drawing cards and healing mechanics are also covered by some attachments and events, specially thanks to the “The Grey Wanderer” contract, which also allows him to use cards from other spheres (just the first non-unique used each turn), but there are few of them and they worth its inclusion as they benefit from Secrecy mechanics and allows him to reduce the deck’s threat (something not very common in a Tactics deck, except for “Secret Vigil”). Nevertheless, the beorning is powerful enough by himself with his bare statics and his ability, but with the attachments he can simply confront almost any enemy on the game. The “Golden Belt” allows him to have three restricted cards which are his three weapons as they are the only restricted attachments in the deck: the "Spear of the Citadel" to deal damage while parrying, the "Bow of Yew" to do the same when he attacked back, and the “War Axe” to increase his attack with a +3 with the three weapons together, although some people could prefer using just 2 restricted weapons including one extra copy of the spear and the bow and removing the belt and the axe. In the same manner, instead of the axe, a “Dagger of Weternesse” or “Orcrist” can be also two good variations to be considered. The rest of the attachments are there to improve Grimbeorn’s statistics and curiously none of them are restricted (although they are limited by just one copy of each). The title of “Captain of Gondor” (I prefer imagine it as the Chieftain of the Beorningfolk) fits him perfectly as it boost him both attack and defense so its matches his ability (the same that happen with “Beorn’s Rage” and “Blade Mastery”). The “Support of the Eagles” works in the same manner but an Eagle ally must be present and they are expensive and some of them even need unkeeping to be maintained on play. Grimbeorn for himself, thanks to the contract and many other attachments can produce resources enough to almost manage the situation by himself but without the help of the old excentric wizard Radagast everything is fastened (more if he had his staff). Meanwhile the wizard comes in to play, Grimbeorn need to pay everything from his own resources and that’s why you should look for "Resourceful" or the “Magic Ring" in the opening hand (even recurring to Mulligan). Remember you can simply look for them in the setting up due to the contract, but it’s better to look for "Strider" instead as it will provide him with 2 points of willpower (he starts with 0!) and the ability of do not exhausting when be committed to a quest meanwhile the number of characters you control were less 5 or less (anyway, you do not have lots of them so it’s easy to fulfill and most of them have an ability to discard themselves from play). “Flight of the Eagles” comes into play too for this reason as you can return any Eagle to your hand (preferably “Meanor” or the “Descendant of Thorondor” to trigger his leaving from play ability in the process) and include a copy of “Eagle of the North” in to the encounter deck for being a potential ally in the future (or at least being a non-problematic shadow card on a combat). Finally, the deck includes an easily fulfilling Side-quest and two “Trained for War” just in case a quest became hard to be fulfilled as a lack of willpower among the group.
