"Where was Gondor when the Westfold fell?"
Well, in this storyline Gondor wants to prove a point and come to help out with all their forces.
First of all the adventure setup requires you to basically remove a hero you control from the game and declare him as a Captive. We take Boromir, because originally he gets killed at Amon Hen but in our story he only gets captivated.
Denethor allows you to kickstart your game either with instantly playing Steward of Gondor or gives you a fair chance to at least bring out some Gondor allies already on turn 1. Having a strong start is kind of essential for Solo playing this game and Denethor is a good Hero card for having that. Gondorian Shield, Steward of Gondor, Visionary Leadership and Heir of Mardil all go on Denethor. Give him all the titles and equipment he demands. With these attachements Denethor will be your main Blocker – he will take most of the attacks and especially the attacks from Uglúk without taking any damage.
Éowyn is just herself as being fantastic in general. You take her to quest until Uglúk engages you in Phase 2b of the adventure. You kill him in the same turn that he engages you with using her ability. And when you spend two resources from Aragorn to ready her, she can attack the other Uruk-Hai the quest requires you to bring out this turn, too!
The deck has also many cards that help you to redistribute resources. You can use Aragorns resources to pay for Envoy of Pelargir and then return the favour and give back one resource to any of your other heroes. This synergy, Pelargir Ship Captain and Denethors redistribution ability goes well with Heir of Mardil.
Gondorian Spearman and Squire of the Citadel act as fantastic chump blockers (even though there is alot of Toughness to be respected) that can trigger your Valiant Sacrifice. The Gondor multiplying effects from Visionary Leadership and Faramir or even the adventure specific The Three Hunters are really strong and will win you the game.
There are some nasty When Revealed effects for which we do not have any answers in this deck so we have to deal with it as they appear. But most of the time you will be fine! Also you will have to face some Archery damage – split them amongst your allies and also on Aragorn.
Swarm your board with allies as fast as possible, quest as much as you can, use Defender of Rammas and Denethor as your blockers and the adventure is as good as finished!
For other adventures you can swap The Three Hunters with For Gondor! and the Blade of Gondolin with Dagger of Westernesse.
