hawkeye007 has a newer deck inspired by this one: The Hobbit Progression - We Must Away, Ere Break of Day Deck

I haven't played any of the Saga series so I figured it was time to start. The first scenario in The Hobbit is fairly tough. It's easy enough to beat the scenario but we want to be able to secure some really cool treasure cards and I found that pretty hard to do. These decks are as thematic as I could make them without relying solely on luck to beat the scenario. Éowyn is just too good and after several frustrating games without her I finally included the best pure quester in the game and my frustration disappeared.

-Mulligan for HP increase (Boots from Erebor, Ring Mail, and/or Hardy Leadership for Gimli and A Test of Will. Gimli just needs 1 extra HP for this fellowship to work efficiently making Citadel Plate unnecessary.

You'll want to avoid completing quest 1B on the first turn so be careful of your questing total. I wouldn't buy anything on turn 1. The encounter deck does have some nasty attachment discard and ally wounding treacheries. Besides the trolls there are only 1 HP crows enemies in the encounter deck and Thalin will take care of those so you can be a little reckless. -Bump up Gimli's HP and then take a troll attack undefended. This will likely happen on Turn 2 and it will give Gimli +5 to his fighting strength. Warning: if, after taking 5 damage, Gimli loses whatever attachment he has that gives him his +1 HP he'll be eliminated. So if you don't have A Test of Will an alternative strategy would be to defend the first troll attack with Gimli. Then, if that discard all attachments card shows up, Gimli will survive.

Unexpected Courage and Cram should go to Gimli and Bilbo Baggins. Gimli because he's your troll slayer and Bilbo Baggins because he's your sack remover.

Speaking of which... Don't be too quick to remove sacks. Bilbo must have resources to travel to the troll cave (where all the loot is) so you can't un-sack every dwarf. Gimli, and most likely Éowyn, should remain sackless. Everyone else can wait until the fightin's done unless you're desperate for will power.

There are sacks for most attachments and most resources so keep Gimli and Éowyn behind or tied with the leader in those two categories.

Once a troll is engaged always pay 1 threat to keep him engaged until it's safe to do otherwise.

You can probably include Fast Hitch and take out an axe or two to increase readying effects.

The other cards speak for themselves and play as needed.
