Con of the Rings 2023 Deck #2 - Grimbeorn support
This is the second of five decks I will be bringing to this year's Con of the Rings. My goal with the decks is to be able to play them with my physical collection and to minimise potential uniqueness conflicts wherever possible. I also don't want anything too janky - I don't want to drag the team down!
This deck was conceived as a way to avoid the brutal treacheries found in the Road to Rivendell quest (you know which ones). Conveniently this is also helpful to have against several other quests as well.
The first two heroes were basically chosen for me: Eleanor to cancel treacheries and Balin to cancel shadow cards. The chance of a Sleeping Sentry slipping through my defences is very slim, and would be even slimmer if not for Crebain.
At this point the deck is not looking all that capable outside of cancellation. I decided to continue the supporting nature of the deck by providing Sentinel defending to the table as well and Grimbeorn the Old fit the bill here. He is excellent against the small and medium sized enemies found in this quest and throughout the cycle.
The deck contains a small number of allies to provide further support or to aid in questing, a large number of attachments specifically for Grimbeorn, and some helpful supporting events. Cards that really help the deck to work are Beorn's Welcome from ALeP, which both Grimbeorn and Balin can use, and King Under the Mountain, a great source of card "draw" which is seldom seen outside of Dwarf decks and so hopefully will not conflict very often.
The sideboard contains some unique alternatives, some additional supporting cards and additional sources of card draw and resource acceleration.
