In the midst of Sauron's growing power, the Blue Wizard, Alatar, discovers a hidden prophecy in the ancient scrolls of the East that speaks of an alliance between the distant peoples of Middle-earth — the Easterlings and Haradrim — capable of turning the tide against the Dark Lord. Realizing that their strength and knowledge of the land could be pivotal, Alatar journeys to the far corners of Middle-earth to unite these often overlooked factions.
At first, the Easterlings, once loyal to Sauron, are divided between loyalty and the hope of freedom. The Haradrim, too, are weary of endless war, torn between their desire for independence and fear of retribution. With wisdom and subtlety, Alatar earns their trust, showing them the true face of Sauron’s tyranny and the possibility of a brighter future.
As the war against Sauron intensifies, Alatar leads a united force of Easterlings, Haradrim, and his own wizardly powers to strike at the heart of Mordor. Using ancient knowledge of the land's hidden paths and magic, they launch a surprise assault on Sauron’s supply lines, crippling his forces and forcing the Dark Lord to divert his attention, weakening his armies in the process.
In a final, daring move, Alatar and his newfound allies infiltrate the Black Gate of Mordor. With the combined strength of the Easterlings’ battle tactics and the Haradrim's mastery of desert warfare, they break through the gates, giving the Free Peoples of Middle-earth the chance to launch their final offensive against Sauron’s forces, leading to his ultimate defeat.
The Blue Wizard's vision of unity between East and South brings a new era of peace, and the Easterlings and Haradrim are no longer seen as enemies, but as essential protectors of the realm. Alatar’s quiet yet profound role in saving Middle-earth becomes a celebrated, if somewhat forgotten, chapter in the saga of the War of the Ring.
With the introduction of ALeP's most recent AP - Strange News in Bree, I can experiment with a deck that almost feels like it is an alternate win condition. I'm not quite sure how necessary or useful the side quests will be, but I wanted to use Alatar for his strong and the fact that we dont really see side quests get play.
Play is straight forward, you really want to start with Emissary of the East in hand as that is critical to progression and reducing you threat gain. Then your Easterlings and Harad allies can provide passive quest progression as you exhaust them with their abilities.
Love the idea and the theme! Have you had much opportunity to see how it plays yet?
