17 - We Must Away, Ere Break of Day (Progression Series)

Description

This is another fellowship continuing on in my goal to play through all of the quests in release order to learn how all (or most) of the cards interact with one another. The first fellowship for the quests in the core set can be found here, and it contains a slightly more detailed overview of what I'm going for with building these decks. As always, any feedback is appreciated so that I can continue to learn more!

One of the main reasons I avoided using Dwarves through the Dwarrowdelf cycle was that I knew I would be using them a ton in the Saga boxes. I'm sure there are some fancier decks that can be built to take care of this quest, but these are simple, straightforward, and absolutely obliterate the trolls. Chump blocking is great, especially if you can get Horn of Gondor onto Thalin. Gimli has his trusty Dwarrowdelf Axe + Citadel Plate combo, and Dain is just a cheat code. Lure of Moria is crazy good to use when trying to finish off the game, and The End Comes is in there so that you can build up the encounter deck a bit more if you need extra time to snag Orcrist, Glamdring, and Sting.

Why is The End Comes in the deck? Did you ever play it in a way that was useful?

@ira212In my progression playthroughs I tried to use every card at least once, even if it is mediocre. There was one game where the encounter deck was running low and I hadn’t managed to get the treasures yet. Instead of letting the trolls turn to stone, i chumped with an ally and used The End Comes to refill the encounter deck so I could get Sting/Glamdring/Orcrist before finishing off the trolls.
